New meaning of "failing a walk"
I don't know if this is due to the coronavirus, but we were recently told that if a walk is prepped and fails to go out then this constitutes a "Failure", whereas if a walk Isn't prepped and the mail is just left on the frame within the sequenced boxes then this is regarded as a Non-failure!! In my view if I came in the following day and saw an empty frame with 2 days mail to prep I would consider this a bigger failure than walking into a prepped frame! Crazy!!

It's like when 'LAPSING' became 'RESOURCE TO WORKLOAD'.onejontwo wrote:I don't know if this is due to the coronavirus, but we were recently told that if a walk is prepped and fails to go out then this constitutes a "Failure", whereas if a walk Isn't prepped and the mail is just left on the frame within the sequenced boxes then this is regarded as a Non-failure!! Now 'FAILURE' becomes 'NON-FAILURE'
All RM jargon to make sure someone gets shafted.

There are two kinds of failure, a Delivery failure and a Workplan failure but they're both failures and both have to be reported via the DDOR.

If the mail isnt prepped into the frame then it's not a USO failure, that's the important issue for RM and management but to me if the mail is in the office and customers don't get their mail, it's a failure.
As for reporting failed mail , it used to be the practice that a manager would want you to quantify the failed items in terms of letters , flats and packets. A practice that is no longer required as the manager has years of experience and a super power which means he can estimate the failed mail accurately, even when he hasn't seen the mail or been to the office.

This has been happening with walks with no day off cover for months here. I figured it was a resourcing thing: why waste time prepping a walk that'll still be there tomorrow. Of course it's a practice meant to meant to get around certain technical definitions. Like lapsing beyond spec and three quarters of someone's walk never actually gets done by the designated duties. That's not a failure, just a 'partial failure'!
The machine stops.

Seven out of eight walks in one of our aisles didn’t go out yesterday. No senior manager on site. The job has well and truly gone to the dogs

in our office priority is parcels, all parcels tracked ,24,48,etc.so how busy are your offices, in ours there is normally no chance of clearing everyday,so one
full walk goes out, and all packets businesss mail from the other walk goes. some letters do remain in the remaining frame, this is reversed the day after and so on, we still finish LATER THAN SCHEDULED MOST DAYS, THERE IS NO TIME FOR ALL THE COMPLETE WALKS TO GO OUT, ARE WE DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

Our office is brilliant we clear all mail, D2D and parcels every day. No failures, even when we bring back half the mail as told to do so by the manager and chuck it back in the frame. Fraud on a grand scale. And all down to the virus apparently.

Its strange that managers seem to be encouraging walks to fail these days
There are a few guys wanting to work their day off only to be told that there wasn't anything going and yet when they came back on their day off they found 2 days worth of mail and packets!!
Managers simply said deliver all the tracked items and whatever you can mail wise.
All so they can save on a day's overtime!

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

No chance of that happing as it would be a management failure they kind of like to blame someone else for their own failures!Woody Guthrie wrote:There are two kinds of failure, a Delivery failure and a Workplan failure but they're both failures and both have to be reported via the DDOR.
