Special Deliveries - 1pm or 9pm?

Post by blobneb »

I've been off work for a fortnight and I've now just come back and been told that despite starting at 10am in order to social distance unlike rest of the office, I'm now expected to get my Special Deliveries done by 1pm again. I had 20 today. Is this right or is this bollocks? This is the same manager that had us delivering failed mail on Saturdays when we apparently weren't meant to be doing it so I'm wondering if he's just chancing it again.

Special Deliveries - 1pm or 9pm?

The advice on the website hasn't changed.
Due to increased absence levels, we’ve reviewed our timed guarantees for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am and 1pm services and will make the following changes. For items posted from Tuesday 31 March 2020 onwards, our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9.00am the next working day will change to by 12.00pm the next working day*. Our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1.00pm will change to by 9.00pm the next working day*.

However if the mail had failed on Friday it is correct that delivery should have been made on Saturday during the no-letters Saturday phase.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Oh I know, and he knew that it was technically correct so he drew up a rota which meant that we'd have a full day of failed mail to do every Saturday.

Been told that they are being measured on their quality again so SDs are being monitored but as earlier poster said the Customer Service website and RM own Coronavirus Q's document still says 9pm is the time. So deliver them when you can especially if they are still forcing the split shift patterns to cater for supposed social distancing.

Depends on their answer to ‘ will you pay me overtime for necessary diversions’ (for the otherwise out of reach 1pm specials )
Most likely ‘No we can’t’ and No I can’t

And it's still there.

But some posties were informed today that the Special Delivery Guaranteed times have gone back to normal. Has anybody else heard of any updates?

I'd have to either speed, run or leave an extra loop every day if they want to go back to 1pm.

(obviously i'm doing none of the speed/run)

Nope, 9am have to be done by 12pm
1pm by 9pm or whatever

It's deffo not changed to normal, they're pulling your todger, probably makes the depot targets look good or some rubbish, maybe less paperwork behind the scenes to explain what 9am/1pm wasn't reached

Yes, this is still the same information on the Royal Mail Special Delivery web page, as it has been for the past few weeks:

I also checked the latest news sites, but nothing's been reported. Perhaps the situation will change next week?

I recently contacted justsayit, and no, it has not changed.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Apparently they're wrong. There are indeed some delivery offices that have gone back to the regular Special Delivery deadlines in the last couple of days. It seems that the plan is to roll out the regular SD times across the country. Our area is one of the first.

But this raises the following question: Why go back to the regular SD times when many offices are still understaffed and vans are still limited to one person? Maybe Royal Mail is taking its cues from the Boris Johnson administration? (Confused and carefree.)

Have a look what RM say on their own website which customers see:

https://www.royalmail.com/sending/uk/sp ... anteed-9am" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It does say 'Due to increased absence levels....' so perhaps your local management have decided that
local absence levels are at such a level that they can honour the 9am/1pm guarantees. Who knows, RM management at its best.....

Many thanks.

So locally if we fail a special we get conduct coded.
