This is the future that RM bosses see for us.
We need to fight this with every ounce of energy we've got.

That Asda example is probably better than what our employer hopes to achieve, at least Asda appear to be offering increased pay whilst diminishing T&C's...
... Our bosses would like to achieve diminished T&C's AND reduced pay!

Wont be long before national living wage catches up to our pay rate. The fight every year for a pay rise dressed up each time as a victory for CWU, when in real terms it's less than inflation. Seems like RM are slowly winning this battle.

Based on how much house prices etc have gone up over the past 10 years, the minimum wage should be £20 per hour by now.Newbie001 wrote:Wont be long before national living wage catches up to our pay rate. 1) House prices are currently overpriced by up to 33% and obviously need to decrease a lot although this will be problematic to achieve. Maybe IF Brexit happens the probable negative pressures will force falls in house prices. The 'buy to let' regime, where some people own hundreds of houses and others do not own one property, is one of the main reasons for such high house prices.
2) With the government continuing to raise tax codes and the minimum or 'living' wage it is indeed true that the gap where posties wages were higher than others continues to close. Given that the minimum wage is not enforced via abuse of the self-employed employee status it's entirely possible our wages will drop below the minimum wage as with other courier firms and companies.
3) Under employment law in the UK all employees are entitled to paid breaks. If they are not paid then the employer has to compensate for this.
4) The article states Asda employees will receive wage rises up to £9 but doesn't say what they currently earn. This may mean the majority of their employees will get a better deal overall while occasionally having to work on a bank holiday. The supermarkets tend to open on all bank holidays except Xmas day anyway so this may not be that much of a change. Sounds like the main losers are staff working overnight but those wage rates have been under attack in other companies such as RM anyway. Us posties are going to get far more of a kicking than the employees at Asda methinks.

But the GMB are a weak union. They mostly are all weak now. The CWU is one of the few strong unions left. That fat mr back needs a good luck in the nuts. w****r.
