Hi...
I've finally made it and bagged myself a permanent part time 25 hour position as a Postie. Hours on the advert were from 8am to 3pm.
I've been given a start time of 8am each day with a rotating day off... So my question is, would each day average 5 hours so I make up the 25, or is it possible I'll work up to 7 hours a day which potentially makes my week 35 hours?
Thank you.

Recently they seem to be doing this a lot, and its a naughty trick as when you are on leave you'll only be paid for the 25 hours, not the 37 you may normally work.
When you start make sure they know you are on a 25-hour contact, the office may not even know. After that, and in discussions with your manager its quite possible, if you want to, to work the full 37 hours.
I would also join the CWU as soon as possible.

Thank you. I'll make sure I let my Manager know tomorrow that I'm contracted for 25 hours.
Luckily, I signed up for the CWU at my induction yesterday. Happy Days.

Good question. It's worth checking on your finish times, just in case they vary. Many offices use longs and shorts, that is, later finishes on the heavier days, with earlier finishes on the lighter days.DaisyDoodles wrote:Hi...

I would say, that if they do vary your working day, you are more likely to START later on the quieter days, than FINISH later. This is due to working in pairs. If you are working with a full timer, it wouldn't make sense for you to be going home when they still have a couple of hours work still to do. DO book any overtime your are due. (You WILL go over your finish time some days) Take your breaks. Get that cleared up with the union rep and or workplace coach when you start. Hope that helps.

I’m in the same position I think I’m suppose to be working 7-14 everyday and my contract is 30 hours but I make that 35 hours? I was also a bit confused but I haven’t received my contract through the post yet

This is perculiar! Mine is 30 hours but it says 8-2 which works out correct! Although I won’t complain if they want me to start earlier.Samanthafletcher12 wrote:I’m in the same position I think I’m suppose to be working 7-14 everyday and my contract is 30 hours but I make that 35 hours? I found out my core hours are:
8.40 to 13.40 - M, Tu. Sa
9.30 to 14.30 - W, Th, Fr
I've been asked to come in at 8am every day so far, so I've already bagged some overtime. In my DO we could get sent out again if we finish really early. I'm with a full timer and so far, even though we've got back before our finish times, we've not been sent back out, but have been paid up to our finish time. Go figure that out, overtime for coming in early and paid until core end time even though we've been sent home.
