Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins is urging his constituents to attend a public meeting with Post Office bosses, to share their views on 'dicey' proposals to relocate Chesterfield's Crown Post Office into the Pavement's Centre branch of WH Smith's, as we reported HERE.

Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins is urging his constituents to attend a public meeting with Post Office bosses, to share their views on 'dicey' proposals to relocate Chesterfield's Crown Post Office into the Pavement's Centre branch of WH Smith's.
Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins urges constituents to attend the consultation on Wednesday 11th December from 4:40pm to 8:30pm at the Chesterfield Hotel

A Post Office spokesman claimed the move is needed to save costs and is being carried out at 70 of their 373 'Crown Branches' - larger stand-alone outlets, such as the branch in Chesterfield's New Square.

However, Mr Perkins has blasted the plans as 'dicey', saying they could "jeopardise the accessibility of the service."

Mr Perkins continued: "The Crown Post Office in New Square is a vital service and iconic local landmark. I'd hate to see it disappear. I'm very concerned that this proposal would lead to a reduced level of expertise and a lower profile for important Post Office services.

"It's hard to see how this service, which is often extremely busy, would function in the smaller space there is at WH Smith."

The meeting is scheduled to take place in the Chesterfield Hotel, opposite the Railway Station, on Wednesday 11th December, from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. Anyone unable to attend can share their views on the move by emailing them to comments@postoffice.co.uk or writing to the Post Office, addressing envelopes "Freepost - Your Comments, Post Office Ltd."
