Strike Action .....
Anyone know if CWU intends Parcelforce employees to strike or will this be exclusive to our noble cousins over at the RM ?

Re: Strike Action .....
Well the scab bribe is being offered to both RM and us so I'm assuming that we are - but I haven't seen us mentioned in any news stories and the cwu website just refers to 'postal workers'.

Bribe was never on offer to us. One out all out brother. Our grievances are similar if not exactly the same. Bring it on.the_damned wrote:Well the scab bribe is being offered to both RM and us so I'm assuming that we are - but I haven't seen us mentioned in any news stories and the cwu website just refers to 'postal workers'.

Re: Strike Action .....
cheers for your thoughts guys .......also quite pist off that nearly all correspondence is addressed to postal workers and not us (even in brackets) ....wouldn't hurt for PFW to be included on letter heads ........ think both RMG & CWU are guilty of this
don't think the scab bribe is lawful as its discriminatory anyway

Re: Strike Action .....
In case anyone in Parcelforce was thinking how to spend thier £300
"The £300 is a specific sum being discussed under the proposed agreement for employees in CWU represented grades in Core Operations, Logistics, Engineers, Fleet Maintenance Services, RMSS and Royal Mail International. Separate negotiations will take place for other CWU grade employees within Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide as per current arrangements."
It doesn't exist for them it NEVER existed for us.

Re: Strike Action .....
We asked our manager, there is only a few of us where we work, and she told us PFW aren't going on strike. I'm sure she only tells us what she thinks we need to know and forgets the rest.
A different manager, who we don't see all that often, mentioned something about having a separate ballot for PFW should there be a vote for strike action as he thought PFW were all happy with the privatization
Just remembered something else. We are also being told that should we go on strike PFW risk losing a lot of customers as the firms they have on contract will see this as a negative thing and will look elsewhere in the future for different couriers. Seems to be lots of BS flying about to keep people working. The day shift supervisor still thinks RM and PFW are going on strike over a pay deal because that's whats been drilled into his stupid head.
All our stuff goes to the main hub at Coventry where I have been measures are in place should any strike action go ahead. What these measures are though I don't know.

The risk of losing customers is the biggest bargaining chip we have.

Not wanting to be inflammatory here, but just have a think about your post there for a moment. The letters part of the business has very little realistic competition. Parcelforce has a LOT of competition. What you need to be thinking about at this moment in time is :smok3y666 wrote:We asked our manager, there is only a few of us where we work, and she told us PFW aren't going on strike. 1. Who are your competitors?
2. How many of those competitors have been involved in any kind of industrial action in the last 5 years?
Now, I'm not advocating that you refuse to strike, nor am I advocating that you must work/cross a picket line. However, your answers to the above two questions will create a fantastic argument that the information in your 5th sentence is actually correct.
Do what you must, but consider the long-term effects of this. Please.

When I joined this firm I was told I coulld retire at 60 now it is 67. I had a decent pension that is now being eroded all the time. I was told I would have a pay rise this April I haven't got it. We have been competing with other private companies for years and doing it well.My work load has increased and my money has been reduced because of unrealistic first time delivery bonus targets. You go to work on the 4th if you like . I'm making a stand.

I am thinking of the long term effects. The long term effects of being screwed over in 3 years time because of privatization.leadseal wrote:Not wanting to be inflammatory here, but just have a think about your post there for a moment. No, I'm not. I understand your grievances, I really do. I have them myself. It's not just you/us though it's the whole country. But you are advocating that I go to work.

I'll go to work on the 4th - I have to - I'm a manager. This is a no-win situation really for everyone involved, and it depresses me. I admire you, and your colleagues for making the stand, and I really, genuinely hope you can come back to this thread in 2 months time and say "I told you so". I honestly do, and if that's the case I'll send you a fiver via paypal to buy yourself a pint on me.
Personally, having read all of the propaganda and arguments from both sides, evaluated it and picked it apart (I've a history degree, it's what I do), I can't see this ending well unless the CWU deal, and deal cheaply. Grangemouth worries me. A lot. Not wanting to put ideas into heads, but it's almost as if the government have set a precedent.
What I will re-iterate is that I admire you, your colleagues, and anyone else who chooses to make that stand, valiant that it is however doomed it may be. My union isn't strong enough to call us out, but believe me if they did, there a hell of a lot of managers who would stand alongside you.

In 3 years time - which would you rather have: A job with equal t&c that you have now, or no job at all?smok3y666 wrote:I am thinking of the long term effects. The long term effects of being screwed over in 3 years time because of privatization.
See my above post, before the answer to this one. Good luck with whatever you decide, hope everything works out, and once again, I admire you for your principles.

Re: Strike Action .....
As the so called 3 year deal doesn't even guarantee the same t&c's this time next year and the 3 years ends in march , also we can compete in the parcel market well and make a healthy profit . All I'm trying to get is a fair share of the cake before the company gives it away in dividends.leadseal wrote:In 3 years time - which would you rather have: A job with equal t&c that you have now, or no job at all?smok3y666 wrote:I am thinking of the long term effects. I thought managment was balloted for industrial action. If your union is weak don't blame us. You could always refuse to cross the picket line.
