I WRITE as a former employee of Post Office Limited. On Tuesday, May 7, Crown Office counter staff in Exeter and elsewhere across the UK were having to take strike action against the Post Office which wishes to impose a pay freeze on their staff, shut down some 70 Crown Offices out of 373 and give staff a lump sum should they be able to meet virtually unachievable targets and which include agreeing to some 800 to 1,200 job losses.
At the same time, Post Office has given other non counter staff a pay rise of 3.5 per cent. This is the third time in seven years that Crown Office staff have balloted for a strike in the face of pay cuts and freezes.
The Post Office now has a shameful record in the way in which it treats those tasked with serving the public so diligently. It is almost beyond belief it should treat its staff in this way. It is a pity its bosses seem more interested in a divide and conquer mentality instead of valuing the efforts of all their employees. Their efforts could be better employed by talking to their staff and treating them with some dignity and respect. I hope locals will show their support.

Re: Cuts forced us to strike
I'm afraid that the 'divide and conquer' mentality is the default mode of any of the imbeciles at Area Manager level and above in POL.
Most of them are unable to find their backside with their own pair of hands and as for treating staff with dignity and respect- FORGET IT!
All that these cretins care about are their precious, unachievable, unrealistic targets and their excessive, inflated salaries.
They are nothing but a bunch of clueless, brainwashed, salary stealing charlatans. (And those are their good points!)

"They couldn't see what should have been so obvious".
