parcelforce workload increase

Post by eric the viking »

With the expected increase of workload by Parceforce picking up the residue from the demise of Standard Parcels,I for one am not looking forward to next week. More to deliver and more Collection stops and no extra resources allocated. Are other depots more organised or is it a game of wait and see ?

How much extra are you expecting?

Unless they're being sent directly to PF or there's someone in the MC deciding which goes to the DO and which goes to PF I doubt any extra will be going. I certainly wont be sending packets off to PF if they come to me, I'm delivering whatever comes to me regardless of their size :Very Happy

The increase should come from PO Counters when Joe Bloggs comes in with a parcel which is too large to go via Royal Mail. The PO staff should then be inviting the customer to send the item via Parcelforce instead

That's the point no one seems to know. If you add in the amount of fails from Thursday, plus nobody wanted to work Saturday, next week looks like being a "Just take it out and do your best" week.

I wouldn't expect too much eric.
Out of the 6,000 or so packets, sorry parcels in our D.O. on thursday I think i saw about 6 that would have been outside the new size range.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I believe anything over 2kg is now cheaper to send via parcelforce than RM if being sent from post office and on a 48 hour service. I collect from almost all my post offices every day anyhow so no big deal eh

I'm sure you, as well as me, is shocked that this system goes into practice and no one has been informed.

Maybe they won't. Maybe that's the point. More cuts. This time in equipment.

Has anyone in either RM or PF heard anything about the details of the changes in WTL? We've not heard anything

You could ask the Revenue Protection people in your office. They should have had several WTLs on the issue (we certainly have in my office).

The main effect on Processing is going to be in the meter areas I would think as pretty much all of their prices are changing. Stamped letters and large letters are keeping the same price (plus most stamps don't show values anyway). Most of the social small parcels and medium parcels will be Horizon so it's just the remaining stamped ones that will have new prices.

Oversized and overweight items should be circulating to Rev Pro to either return to sender (if there's a return address) or forward via 2nd class stream (if there is no return address). A more joined up business would give customers the choice to transfer the item to Parcelforce (and transfer the appropriate revenue from RM to PF) but we don't work like that

I think the main cause of any problems will be the sizing. I can't see the point in having small and medium parcels when just small would do, both small and medium parcels will get sorted together. RM will need to update the kill-off sticks with 2 new options, Oversized and Overweight

I must say it was chaos in the depot today, nobody seemed to know what was going on. Mind you, nor did the sub-post offices!
