Kent's Post Office Campaign

Post office campaign

Kent is one of the first areas in the country to undergo a government-led review of the post office network aimed at finding savings through closures.

We are very concerned about the impact that these closures will have on Kent's communities and businesses - and the way that the process is being implemented.

We have therefore launched a campaign to support Kent's post office network in the face of threatened closures.

As part of this campaign, we are pressing for a full consultation on the proposed changes (to be published on 2 October) - as we believe that the six weeks set by the government and Post Office Ltd (link opens in a new window) to collect local views is far too short and should be doubled.

We believe that any changes must:

* not be rushed - and subject to detailed consultation
* meet the current and future needs of Kent's communities and businesses
* recognise and address the impacts on co-located retailers

Your views count

We will be formally responding to the Post Office Ltd's proposals - and we want to hear your views.

You can:

* take part in our online petition to urge Post Office Ltd to re-think its plans, and implement a full consultation period to allow enough time for residents to respond to the consultation
* start a local petition in your community by downloading our petition form. All completed petitions should be returned to 'Support our Post Offices Campaign', c/o Corporate Communications Team, Kent County Council, Sessions House, County Road, ME14 1XQ
* fill in our online questionnaire to tell us what impact post office closures will have on you.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Good to hear that your local council is actively opposing the PO closures. Unfortunately POL does not take one bit of notice to any opposition to closures - the 'consultation' is a sham, like the consultation about our pensions.
