Unite, Britain's biggest union, remains opposed to the privatisation of the Royal Mail but welcomes news that the Royal Mail's pension fund assets and liabilities are set to be transferred to the government next month, subject to EU approval.
Unite represents over 9,000 managers across the Royal Mail Group.
Unite national officer Ian Tonks said: "Unite remains firmly opposed to the privatisation of the postal service. Privateers are not interested in providing a public service they are only interested in making a profit at the expense of consumers and our communities.
"Unite does however support the government's pensions’ solution. This proposal will allow Royal Mail to concentrate on modernisation of the service in the knowledge that the pension scheme is secure. The changing face of the postal industry presents huge challenges and opportunities with the number of letters decreasing whilst, e-retailing means, the number of parcels are on the increase.
"We hope these pensions proposals are approved by the EU, it will mean security for the members of the pension scheme and Royal Mail can get on with the job of focusing on the service."

And your managers are not interested in providing a public service they are only interested in making their bonus at the expense of consumers, our communities and Postal Staff.Privateers are not interested in providing a public service they are only interested in making a profit at the expense of consumers and our communities.
What's your point Mr Tonks?......i don't remember the Unite Keep The Post Public Campaign.
I take it his members are starting to see the team leader reality of privatisation.
