THE wide variations in the time of daily mail deliveries in the east of England varies is completely unacceptable, a postal watchdog claimed last night.
While some parts of Suffolk and Essex receive their post between 8am and 9am, for others it can arrive as late as 1pm, the group said.
The findings were discovered in a survey carried out by Postwatch between March 5 and 17 this year, during which 245 people from the region monitored their mail.
According to the figures, 30% of customers in East Anglia experienced inconsistent daily delivery times of over two hours variance, 7% had deliveries across a period of more than four hours and 26% consistently received their mail within an hour each day.
Meanwhile 20% of customers in urban areas experienced inconsistent delivery times, while this increased to 40% in rural areas.
Dr Charles Winstanley, chairman of Postwatch East of England, said: “Royal Mail introduced single daily delivery in 2004. Research carried out by Postwatch at the time showed that customers generally do not mind later deliveries, as long as their mail is delivered at a consistent time.
“It is therefore disappointing to learn that for 30% of customers in our survey the time of delivery ranges from 9am to 1pm and in some cases delivery times are even more erratic.
“This really is not acceptable. Customers want and deserve a reliable, consistent mail delivery service. We will be pressing Royal Mail to act to address the problems our research has revealed.â€

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

“Having said that we always want to improve and we are exceeding next day delivery targets on a consistent basis. This is down to the hard work of our postmen and women who are doing a fantastic job.â€

I do my 5 walks different than the regulars,so i get the 'you're early' 'you're late' malarkey and then like you say there's the easy days, bad days.
If anyone thinks that we can deliver at exactly or near enough the same time EVERY day then it just ain't gonna happen.
Maybe RM could put in a 'work to the frame' thing for every one,but that's just gonna cause grief.
I'm not sure where we would stand with that, personally i change it around so i finish as near as i can to where i live.
This could be interesting if this is pushed hard enough by Postwatch or Postcon.

Next stop for Postwatch Weston
WESTON'S GONNA HAVE A MARE
WESTON'S postal service is set to plunge into chaos under new EU rules which say delivery vehicles have to drive more slowly.
Postmen say the changes will threaten their livelihoods as they will be forced to deliver mail much later in the day and businesses will turn to private couriers.
Royal Mail vehicles, which bring letters and parcels to Weston's sorting office, will only be allowed to drive up to 56mph. This means the post will get to Weston later.
