Hi
I am a 28yo female part time postie working 22.5 hours a week and have been paying into a pension automatically for the last 3 months. However, everyone I have spoken to say it isnt worth joining as the pensions are rubbish, I can vouch for this because my dad has lost £1000 on his. I am thinking of leaving as most of my work history has been admin/office and I am finding the job rather stressful, what should I do?
Thanks

If you leave the job within 2 years you can get all your contributions back,if you feel you are going to stay on and make a go of it i would 'personally' keep the pension going.
The pension is not rubbish, the T&C's have changed but it's not rubbish.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No ........ Because the parasites making money from your pension payments are allowed to change the rules at will. They have done already and they will continue to do so. You might as well hand over your wages to a beggar in exchange for a promissary note, you might fare better

Take a look at the interest rates for ISA's on the net, they are rubbish at the moment. I can get a better rate out of an ISA even after paying tax on the interest.zoo wrote:plus on them hours its not worth it you be lucky to get twenty pound a week out of it in many many years from now save it up yourself your more in control of it then an ISA better.

It's fair to say that the new money purchase pension is nowhere near as good as the career average scheme let alone the final salary one. But it still attracts money from RM - that's money you wouldn't be getting if you weren't a member! You also get tax relief at source on your contributions, so if you pay £10 per week for example, it's only actually costing you £8.emmaa_uk wrote:everyone I have spoken to say it isnt worth joining as the pensions are rubbish
£1,000 is nothing in pension terms - at 60 you'd be lucky if you get £1 per week in income from that.I can vouch for this because my dad has lost £1000 on his.
I don't blame you for wanting to leave, but you should look at your pension as an investment you build up over your working life to provide an income for when you pack in work. Any contributions you get from employers along the way (however long you stay with them) will go towards that 'pot'.I am thinking of leaving as most of my work history has been admin/office and I am finding the job rather stressful, what should I do?
