Everyone gets on OK in my office (120ish total). Part time walks are probably shorte on average than full time walks but not by much. I start at 6-ish and get on well with the writing room and they know I'm happy to do any over time that I know if they are deperate so they usually arrange for people to jobs they know.
We have recently started doing 15 minutes sorting. I fought it as hard as possible but lost so I'm expecting we will soon be doing an hours sorting in the morning and then a near full time delivery. If I had the choice of going full time now I would because soon I'll be doing the same job for 3/4 the pay.
I suggest you avoid the ;us and them' situation and just join in anyway. I've worked in many places and met many people and its very easy to fit into an unjustified paranoid trap.

as a ex union rep in my office i keep getting the same s**t said to me that the part-timers are treated worse than the full timers and yes i agree in part with tommo senority
but in my office most of my few part timers dont join the union then say they cant afford to join then whinge about there conditions i say join up and we get u a better contract most of the guys on p/t in my office are doing more than there contracted hours anyway

but since the strikes have started ive had 2 young guys sign up and have promised them i will look into there contracts and see about increasing there hours if possible as they are both doing more than there contract every week
Its all well and good promising them "to look in there contracts." But What ive seen since widespread CASUAL ABUSE in this job... And whot i mean in CASUAL ABUSE. Is the way RM use these ppl and the union have in the past from HQ let and backed all the AG rate posties and casuals at the detrement of the FULL TIMER... European laws are banded about willy nilly... "WE CANT DO THIS WE CANT DO THAT.." But the full timer is being eroded from RM...
Union stance is all well and good.. But keep your own house in order first... FULL TIMERS.. SENIOR PEOPLE.... ONE JOB POSTIES.... Look after them with a prefrence.. YES IN SOME CASES ITS WRONG... But not as wrong as letting RM go part time... LOCK STOCK AND BARREL... And this is what is happening.....

It might be the old saying.... "LOCK THE DOOR AFTER THE HORSE HAS BOLTED."???? But we need to encourage yes... part timers to do the job properly and join the union so WE ALL CAN FIGHT FOR RIGHTS..... But with a FULL TIMER at the forefront of the unions mind!!!!
I dont want ANY DISCRIMINATION against ANYBODY but its for the greater good that the CWU is fully focused on FULL TIMERS FIRST.. SHAME BUT TRUE...
