This weeks strike
How many of you will, and will not be taking part on Saturday?
I might go in, need the money and got a letter today from the RM boss saying the strikes aren't gonna make a difference as they cant afford the pay rise.
Thoughts?

For me its not about the pay rise its about the strings and all the other things like late starts, Gio-route, team working, summer Lapsing, sick days and now pensions.
I will be on the picket line at 0400 (first time to do work early) and will never cross picket line especially a CWU one.
Also I note you said you need the money - will I sat down and worked it out I loose about the same striking as I will if RM has its way if you look into it as well you might find the same.

Agreed, as I pulled my manager up this morning, its not the pay rise, its the s**t that goes with it.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:For me its not about the pay rise its about the strings and all the other things like late starts, Gio-route, team working, summer Lapsing, sick days and now pensions.

I certainly will be on strike this Saturday. I'd happily do a deal with RM and strike every Saturday - perhaps we can make savings that way !
Seriously though, I have no real problem with people who openly admit to not being able to afford to strike. I know most of our office can afford 1 day per week almost indefinately. I don't mean they don't need a pay rise but that most people can cope with a 15% drop in earnings if pushed into it.

Re: This weeks strike
pussycatboi, if everyone thought like you Royal Mail wud have done already what they want to do and mayb even more if ones are going to be such a walkover!! Even if we dont gain anything from this strike at least we can all look back and proudly say we "FOUGHT" the ****, sorry language.. but many on here cant afford to be cutting wages each week , ones even have said they wud shovel rubbish of the street than cross a picket line!!! its all about morals here that is what i believe and will continue to.. No harm to any1 who goes in but i dont agree with it .pussycatboi wrote:How many of you will, and will not be taking part on Saturday?

If you needed convincing .....
With the news of the proposed pension changes, the fog we are fighting through starts to take more solid shape and it is in the shape of a warning - if we lose this dispute Royal Mail's leaders will tear us and our union to pieces.
It is patently obvious that every mistake and bad business decision they have made over the years has now come home to roost and like most megalomaniacs they see the blame lying with everyone but themselves.
We are expected to pay the price of pension holidays, greedy and inept contract procurement and successive governments that have bled off our profits to fund their mistakes in other branches of public service, along with a distinct lack of courage in facing up to the weakening and absurdly unfair restrictions placed on our business by Postcomm (an organisation you would think was designed to facilitate Royal Mail's downfall and little else).
A newspaper article pinned on our noticeboard today along with the official denial of the Mirrors pension news likened our situation to being that of "Lions led By Donkeys" but instead of referring to the management as the Donkeys it meant the CWU leadership.
I was shocked at the use of such a phrase as I had always associated it with the tragic loss of life in the first world war when millions of soldiers led by inexperienced but nonetheless brave officers went unquestioningly into battle on the whim of Generals and politicians who did not care about the casualties. Therein lies the true comparison, our union is trying to avoid disaster NOT accelerate our charge toward it, threatened and misled by a General Staff and their political masters who all stand to gain from our losses.
We cannot afford to lose - listen all you faint hearts and deserters - it's time to stand and fight - for your jobs - your families and your quality of life. OUR COUNTRY NEEDS US.

They may well do it there way regardless but at least we will have given them a bloody nose and kept the union alive. We all know we will have to compromise that's the nature of things but please don't be like a kitten and roll over to have your belly tickled just because RM say so.pussycatboi wrote:But whatever happens I think RM are going to still do things their way regardless, I don't see them giving into the strikes, although I agree with the reasons everyone is on strike.
