I'm also on Part Time, If I dont want overtime and am going over my time I simply call the office up an hour in advance and tell them that I will be returning the mail,I've only done this once and they were fine with it, regarding specials I wouldnt put it back in the postbox, again contact the office, you get extra money for door 2 doors (about £20 per week) you sign the sheet and hand it into the office, are computer system is crap and we dont get paid every week but it does eventually get paid to us. I wear trainers and dont have a problem with blisters, try wearing a thick pair od socks, a lot of them wear football socks at are place.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You should let your manager know before you go out that you will not be able to finish to time.brenda wrote:what do you do if you are part time and you have mail over and you dont want overtime can you put loads post back in postbox? if so is there anythink i need to write on them?

Is this a wind up??
Never put anything back in a postbox, especially Special Delivery items...........otherwise you won't last in this job very long, wilful delay amongst other things.
Tell your LM that you cannot complete in time before you go out.

Dear Brenda
Prompted by this one I just checked back on a few of your other posts and it looks like you have been a prime example and victim of RM's totally inadequate training and induction program.
The policy seems to be - stick 'em on a walk and tell 'em whereabouts it is - let them find out about the job by asking 'cos we're too busy having a bad time to give a s**t about anyone else - don't give them any information that may cost us money and last but not least - if they break the rules we haven't told them about we can put them through the conduct code and have a hold on them.
We can offer some experiences of value and a number of often worthwhile opinions on the right way to do it in these forums, but for your own safety and security ask for a session with your rep and manager together to iron out anything you are not sure of. I suggest both together because whilst there are set down procedures and mutually agreed methods, there are also on the fly interpretations of both - welcome to chaos my dear.

If you know before you're going out of the office that you wont be able to finish on time, tell your line manager that you will be leaving some mail behind.
If you find out whilst out on delivery that you wont be able to finish on time, ring them up (Good luck getting an answer) and inform them you're either bringing some mail back, or if it's too much to bring back, inform them they can pick it up from the pouch box.
The much better method is informing them before you leave the office. Last thing you need is shed loads of hassle and grief after you're already out on your delivery.
The junk mail you referred to, known as households, door to doors or crap! There should be an A4 bit of paper with all the names of the roads you deliver to on it. Against each road should be a figure, that's how many houses are on that road. Fill in your initials and the date against each road as you deliver them. Anyone in your office should be able to tell you where to hand the completed form in.
As for knackered feet. I wear trainers, running ones as the soles are more cushioned than normal ones. If I wear Royal Mule shoes I can't walk after 20 minutes.
Like everyone else has said. Never, ever, post Special Delivery items back into a post box
How long have you been working for this joke of an employer?

Inform your manager before you go out if you know in advance. If after you 've left office you must call him.what do you do if you are part time and you have mail over and you dont want overtime
Never put mail back into the system unless you have already tried to deliver it and can't. Then you must endorse each piece of mail with the reason why and date. IE Dog Loose - 24 Jul 07. Or Boarded Up, Gate Locked No access etc. Any mail you have been unable to deliver because you have run out of time and don't want to do overtime should not be put back in system. Take it back to the office or pouch drop as instructed by a manager.can you put loads post back in postbox? if so is there anythink i need to write on them?
You loose your job. If you can't deliver it before 1.00 pm we have been told we have to break off from the delivery and ensure that it is delivered. However take guidance from your manager. In our area we can only return Prios by either taking them back to the Prio Locker, Callers Office or any Post Office and a signature must be obtained.what happens if i put a special delivery back in postbox?
D2D yes fill in the sheet which should be on your frame or in the pigeon hole on the IPS frame - see any Postman/woman on how to fill it our. Theoreticaly you should do 20% of your walk (or of a walk) per day.iam i sopose to be getting extra money for junk mail if so what do i have to do to get it?
I got some foot shock absorbers from Betterware 3 years ago and they are still going strong. You need the full foot ones the are yellow and blue or at least mine are. However, if you treat your feel properly and wear in the shoes before you do a full day in them you should not get any blisters(I've been a postie for 4 years and have never had any). I find its best to wear them while at home or even soak them, bash them against the floor and then stuff newspaper in them and let them dry naturally. (Old forces trick is to pee in them works well but you get strange looks till the smell goes away, and it works I had to march 50 miles in 3 days once and never got a blister then either)..
