No - we get a bus pass for us to go to the round and back to office. But nothing from/to home when starting/finishing.

Well for me my shift starts at 5.00am finishes at 13.00 and they pay me 8 hrs. It would be very unusual for any company anywhere to pay you from when you leave your home. But check with your manager if you are unsure.

The only time that I have ever known any employer to pay for travel time is if you are 'on call'. In that case your duty time would be from when you are called out.

Most employers do NOT pay for travel time to/from normal place of duty.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You are covered by Royal mail insurance from when you leave for work to when you arrive home, the down side of that is if you do something illegal on the way home you can be taken down the conduct code for bringing Royal Mail into disrepute.

Sorry I do think you are wrong. You are covered by RM insurance when you enter any RM building and at work when you sign on for the duty both in and outside for your full shift or until you sign out. When you sign off you are then covered to the exit, when you reach the pavement/road you cease to be covered by RM.

Well I am basing my facts on when a postie was disciplined for beating up someone on the way home, they stated he was representing Royal Mail as he was in uniform, however i am happy to stand corrected.

I remember the May Day riots some years ago & one postie was sacked after being identified via CCTV - it didn't help his cause that he was wearing his RM coat at the time he was smashing a Mikky D's window & subsequently got splashed over the front page of The News of The Screws
