Very quiet about the POL strike on this forum. Is anything going to happen? What sort of support level is expected? What do people think of the 2-half day efforts?
In my office it is roughly 50-50 I think, but a couple of people who would have definitely come out are day off or on leave.

I asked at my local Po (A crown one) and the boss is opening and the girls behind the counter looked embarrassed. Will check them out on Friday.

POL Strike
Yes we are one of the Smiths-Seventy, but no deals on postage I'm afraid, if I can't have discount no-one can!
The office rep sparked into life today and has drummed up a bit more support, so it may be 'all out brothers' apart from the non-CWU people. My ABM and myself are expected to be there, and it is my day off, so more time in lieu is on it's way. I have also had to cancel an appointment which is a bummer!
The main reason that I thought it was 50-50 until today was the high number of people leaving the business, who are basically looking at an additional lump-sum before they leave. I also have quite a few who don't believe in strike action. I think that the office rep may have tipped the balance, which I guess is his job. I have to say that all I have said to them is to make their own decision, the facts are out in the public domain, so they don't need me going on about it they can decide for themselves.
There is also some confusion about whether coming out in support of the pay-deal dispute will affect their Sales-Continuity Bonus which will de dependant on on no involvement in protests/action against the conversions. If the dispute is worded or dressed up to include the WHSmiths deal as well, there £1000 could be in jeopardy, so I think that may have an influence, especially on those not getting big VR deals. I have tried to get it checke out for a definitive answer, but nothing as yet, so if anyone out there knows I would be grateful for the info!
On a darker note I did have a young member of my team approach me and say that she felt intimidated by the way she was spoken to about the strike action, and because of that she may well come in. I did tell her that she had to make her own mind up, but she is worried about being intimidated at the door if/when she arrives for work, which if it happens is bang out of order.
My Dad came out in 1971, and said he wouldn't strike again after that, so he tried to go in in 1988 and I had to wade in and stop him getting a kicking from some of his so-called 'mates' on a drunken picket line. Not pretty, let's hope things don't get silly this time. Although to be honest I expect most of mine will just have a lie-in!

Discount Stamps
FAO Postman
Every year we get stamps in our lovely Royal Mail Group Xmas card - some people in our office haven't got round to using the ones you have to lick from years back - let alone the s/a ones!
Maybe you could launch an appeal on the portal and we could send them to a PO box?
I bet we are not the only ones with stamps lurking!
I'm sure you could cope with santa squatting or a robin or two!

my wife cleans our local crown office and most are p/t and have too my knowledge never supported any I/A in the past but this time nearly all apart from 1 is staying out they have told her

our crown post office in Hanley Stoke on Trent is marked for closure but there is no interest from the staff on striking. Is it just me or are these people a pathectic bunch they give there union a mandate and now try and justify there argument in pounds and pence. Strike action is all about being prepared to lose money and making a stand about what we deserve. We have people arguing about retaining public sector jobs and services and these people who actually earn a living from it can't be bothered to fight.
Its not to late to change your minds and join in tomorrows action some come on the wider area will support your fight.

POL Strike
Further to the news that the £1000 bonus would be lost if staff strike, there was infomation circulating from a local CWU source that it would be a collective thing, whereby if only one person went on strike the whole office would lose the bonus, regardless of whether they went on strike. This has subsequently been denied by none other than Ronnie Flynn on a Horizon memoview, so what started out as a bit of CWU propoganda has spread like wildfire. I have heard that the CWU will now be pursuing a legal channel to claim discrimination if bonusses are paid to non-strikers and not people who go out, on the basis that it is discriminating against people who take action. Wait and see on that one!
The bad news in terms of support for the strikes is that a lot of people round our way did not like being given misinformation by their union reps, and are now determined to come in.
Further to that the actions of some office reps and their approach to 'persuading' people to strike has also caused bad feeling. There have been all sorts of stories being circulated, that I won't repeat because I do not know how true they are. But I do know for certain fact that a young member of my team told me she felt 'intimidated' by the union rep and his continual badgering for her to come out. She also said that he told her that the rest of the office would not be pleased if she came into work, despite him knowing that several others were coming in anyway. Clearly he has a job to do to encourage people to follow the strike mandate, but she was upset and visibly shaken by his methods. The one thing it has done is strengthen her resolve to come in, which rather makes his efforts a bit pointless. I have had to do very little to encourage my team to come into work - the CWU rep has done my job for me!!
