The Royal Mail has lost a contract worth £8 million a year to deliver goods for online trader Amazon.
The contract is the latest in a number of important deals the postal group has lost in the past year as it faces increased competition from private delivery firms.
The announcement of the loss of a contract to deliver second class post for Amazon came ahead of crucial talks aimed at averting a national strike by postal workers in a dispute over pay and modernisation.
Silver lining,no f***ing Harry Potter shite then this year.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Hopefully as its packets, we wont have to deliver it tho! In all seriousness, unless C and L really want to run RM ito the ground in order to privatize us, surely its time to listen to your workforce, revize the business plan, sort this unneccesary dispute out and sort out postcomm.
Thing is, though we laugh at those two clowns for cocking something else up, we are in danger of those two halfwits drumming us out of a job as they lose contract after contract and blame us for it because we want decent working conditions and realistic targets.
ARE YOU LISTENING RM???? GET THOSE TWO OUT BEFORE THEY RUIN US ALL AND THE BUSINESS WE CARE SO MUCH ABOUT!!!!!
"Royal Mail said, 'We are very proud to work with Amazon and the loss of such a significant piece of their business demonstrates very clearly that Royal Mail's higher costs, directly caused by our failure to fully modernise our operations, are costing us business."

They have to mention costs to justify their current agenda, why not mention the government run joke postcomm and say we cant bloody well hold onto our business - not ONLY because of running costs but also because all our competitors use US to deliver the lucrative business mail they are poaching from us.
Never mind, in a couple of years time we can read the lecky meters as we do our round (obviously we wont get paid for that either! :cfo
just seen on the news we are to lose amazon contract. But will we still do the final mile!!!
royal mail should have seen this coming. Funny how they announce this just as the union are
about to have talks. :cfo :lfo
Thanks Postcomm - another contract down the swanny!
If RM can't compete on price then eventually any business with any sense will go to a cheaper competitor and all our fancy new machines won't make a scrap of difference.
amazon might feel they have a good deal - but I bet the public won't - they will have a choice of left on the doorstep or go to an office 10 miles away to collect it - no more leaving with neighbour, calling again on the way back to the office, pushing through the catflap or any of the myriad other considerations you get from a postie who knows you personally. Yet another example of a business decision driven by greed instead of service.
that tosser leighton has got his mucky fingers in a lot of pies.
he's probably handing the contracts to other companies he's got interests in if you know what i mean!!
probably a big wig in dare i say it tnt? whoops who said that not I.
the world is corrupt my friends and no more than this f****er!!
like to know how much the w*****r really rakes in! :lfo
I can't believe the media have fallen for this one!
I reckon TNT have picked this one up and the competition will undercut RM to break even or below cost. RM are losing contracts all the time as Downstream access spreads, and they don't seem to get mentioned.
Also those fcuking Potter books were costing the company to deliver anyway
Yes and remember the last Harry Potter book delivery? Saturday morning Mums waiting at the door saying "Thanks alot postie, kids will be happy now" Job satisfaction, job welldone . So let TNT or whoever deliver the final mile and see if they can get the 99.9% success rate we had. Then Amazon can say should have stuck with the posties.
TNT won't deliver it'll be left to us, so we'll get the thanks from the people receivng (not customers however they think they are) but all the crap whenever TNT can't get the stuff to us on time. AL & AC with all their their business sense should have at least have sorted all this out (unless they are going to make their personal fortune out of this). God how I hate them.
