Ours like to sit at the end of your round postie watching, reading a newspaper of course, an efficent use of management resourses. Especially after you have just handed back, strange that. As if I would be stupid enough to go home early. Other than that I'm told they like to shop and try out different sandwich shops. Oh yes and running football teams, outside interests ...that sort of thing.
Work!
Don't be stupid, thats why they became managers.

We haven't even had geo-route implemented yet,but our managers are out almost daily delivering.
DOM tried to take 80 hours out of the office recently, but this was rejected,we suggested he should lose the DOM support, but he wasn't interested .
Ironically we haven't had anyone in that position for months,i've worked for some big, professional companys in the past, but never known anything
like the amateur operation that is royal mail.
I've never known an assistant manager spend so much time on the shop floor, literally doing the job of another postman.
I know it offends certain people, but relatively speaking the renumeration for unskilled work is fairly good in my opinion,so taking this further, and
looking at the managerial positions,i believe the phrase 'overpaid and underworked' was coined from them!
So BristolChris,it's not just what they do when we're all out working, but how can they go weeks at a time with no-one covering their positions??

Hi robd, Quote "but how can they go weeks at a time with no-one covering their positions??" The reason this can be so, is the fact that, by and large their Jobs are not really necessary! In the main, our Office is self regulated, people come in and get on with the Job. If Royal Mail Senior Management understood that at least 98% of staff are only interested in doing a "good job" AND IF TREATED FAIRLY (WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS THE REQUEST FOR SOME FORM OF ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN?, is that this does not happen) Most Office`s could IMO, run with just 1 Line Manager, who could make any decisions that need `clarification` on a daily basis.

Our managers are usually out on delivery as they can't find enough mugs to to perform overtime. If they're not on delivery, they spend about an hour cutting and tipping mailsort. Then it's a stroll over to the paper shop and back for a few hours of drinking tea and looking the the BBC news on the internet.
On Saturdays' they're heading home soon after 9 o'clock, unless they have to take half a delivery out because there are frewer and fewer people daft enough to work overtime on the current rate.

dont know if it is still running but try clearing cleo,(complaints over the computer)and doing rec/del searches for a week if you want to know where their time goes plus about 200 make work chores that go with the job sent down from above,oh and the rec/del bit is a pain because we just rip the stickers off,1/2 the job is supplying info and ticing boxes to keep the people above you in a job checking this info

Our supervisors ( lets face it managers they ain't) mainly stand around in little groups talking and leaning over yorkies. This is when they are not doing our work..which is actually starting to face a bit of a rebellion with some posties stopping working when they see managers doing our work.
But come to our place on a Sunday and you will see 4 or 5 supervisors standing talking for hours on end. You will find these are the first ones to dig somebody up who stops to catch a breath at some point.
Did I call them supervisors?? apoligies to any non-RM supervisors out there as they can't even be classed as that...let me think what could i call them.....
