Royal mail cant recruit

Post by voodou7628 »

So the agency guy i trained 3 weeks ago has just told me he has had a pay rise fron £13.33 to £16.58 he seem overjoyed and so he should be but this just highlights the desperation of royal mail to recruit for chistmas as we are losing more staff than we are recruiting. This christmas is gonna be a s**t show as senior staff are leaving that experience is unreplacable and management are desperate for numbers.

They don’t seem to care which is annoying but I just get on with things as best I can. Good luck to the agency guy.

736 vacancies as of now. These needed filling already if they want the staff to up to any kind of speed before it gets properly busy. Last year they took on loads of them too late and they all were s**t doing hardly any parcels and bringing back loads each day.

The new recruitment website is now annoying with all the pop ups and chat bot s**t.

That's 736 jobs being advertised. Our office is at least 16 short of full complement and we're allowed to recruit another 4. So I suspect that actual vacancies is much higher.

I can see us constantly rolling over much of the 2nd class mail to the next day.... at least we have that leeway with the new USO in place.

Do legacy and new staff all now complain that the agency workers are getting way more than us?

Problem is the “rolling over” has already been done in the mail centre. It’s due for delivery when it arrives at the office, the way things are going they will improve the 1st class rate and then fail on the 2nd.

If that's really the case then how do the pilot offices work when they only deliver 2c mail 2 times a week on alternate weeks?

As a new contract employee why don’t I just quit, then reapply for agency work and get a £3 an hour pay rise. I’ll be working as much OT as I can in the run up to Xmas anyway and most likely looking to leave in the new year.

I heard that 16 people applied to work in delivery.. at an office, only 4 turned up. With then only 1 then willing to start..

So many offices now with staff leaving, no one wanting to work in delivery..

Seems like a national crisis royal mail are having..

I'm not surprised, imagine been totally new to the job, walking up to a fitting with 5 d2d piled up, two days worth of mail to throw in and 3 packets bags waiting to be scanned, that's my duty this week, then they throw the oversize at you, I feel like just turning round and going back home most mornings,

Our office just recruited 9 people from 67 applicants. No problem recruiting. Or so they said in the brief we had.

Can't recruit, can't retain. Yet seemingly have an empty-less pot for agency staff.

We've a collections driver leaving on Friday, meaning now we have zero reserve! So there'll be no relief driver for Christmas as we all bulk out every wave. Not to worry, we're collecting parcel force too now lol! This Christmas will definitely be the most chaotic.

Started telling all the post offices to complain to their own area managers now when things go wrong, anything that goes through RM management gets swept away.

There have been many new starts around the office and they come and go before I even learn their names, so I exchanged some pleasantries last week with a new guy that was just finishing his training with one of the WPCs. One day on a duty.... aaaaand he's gone.

The churn is unreal. We had a fully-ish staffed office this time last year which finally allowed a re-sign to plug the one third vacant duties. A year later a third are vacant again.
The machine stops.
