Wish I could report myself to OFCOM

Post by John Gaita »

Seriously this hit rock bottom. We don't even pretend to deliver letters anymore. I spend the day delivering between 100 and 200 parcels, sometimes more, half of them from Amazon. 1st class letters? When they don't stay in the frame, they go back and forth for days, sometimes more than a week. Management only cares about parcels, and we get abuse because they're impossible to complete. We had the CWU area rep in the office a few times, says he can't do anything. Union is dead.

As anyone thought of going directly to OFCOM? I would if I could, just don't know how to properly do it.

This might sound unusual but whilst Ofcom regulates the postal service, it does not investigate individual delivery complaints. You should complain first to the postal services provider i.e. RM!

Just tell the managers to go do one, they can't do anything either.

Someone should probably be whistleblowing the way RM is being run at this point, no? Management and CWU are surely complicit in destroying the "business" for personal monetary gain... :left:

We have been told to prioritise tracked 24 and 1st class. If we have to much to deliver we have to drop tracked 48 🤷‍♂️

Why worry about it as you're getting the same pay whatever you deliver?

What I don't get is the majority(?) of DO's now seem to be delivering Ic items, so if other DO's aren't still delivering them and their COM's are correctly reporting their failings, then RM are never going to reach the target set for delivering Ic mail.

I don't get that as the difference between 24/48 is the time spent traveling through our network so when they arrive at the do they are of equal importance to be delivered that day

So is everything that arrives in the DO that day, but it's quite obviously impossible to do that since the last revisions so there has to be some kind of prioritisation.

My gripe is that Tracked are not USO-regulated products. RM can be a parcels company if it so desires, just that it doesn't get to fulfill its commercial interests to the exclusion of its statutory obligations. T24 and First Class are absolutely not at parity.
The machine stops.

Who's "we"? - do you mean you personally, you and your van-share colleague, or the whole office?

The reason I ask is because some staff in our office are regularly clearing multiple days worth of mail while others are only ever doing one day's load. Often this happens because managers move certain staff around or pull people off duties. If that's happening regularly, it could be grounds for a grievance as the office wouldn't be operating under fair workload distribution.

That's a management responsibility rather than an individual choice, and submitting a grievance is an official escalation that puts pressure on your manager to explain why this mail isn't being delivered. Some offices don't have reps or reps who seem too close to management to get involved, but you can still raise it yourself if needed.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The whole thing stinks - company and union
Verbal daily instructions at our office to walks “take the mail out for a drive/spin” so the they can take photos of clear frames
And tracked to be scanned no answer / inaccessible and NOT not attempted

Oh - but check for any NHS mail and try to deliver them

If frames are being emptied for show while mail isn’t actually being delivered then that’s a deliberate misrepresentation of service performance. Raising it on the workplace app or sending an e-mail (like Postman said) creates a paper trail with dates, what was said, who gave the instruction.

If enough of us document what's really happening on the shop floor then it becomes much harder for anyone to pretend that it's business as usual. In the last few months our office has recruited dozens of posties to try and get this mail delivered and there's overtime going for anyone who wants it left, right and centre.....Don't just vent your frustration on here, report it.

I got told the opposite, when I asked what I should do if I don’t have time, I got told to leave the 1st class and just get tracked done. Basically got told the 1st class needs to leave the building so put it in a bundle and just bring it back.
