Been told to work the set Rural hours when I'm on it even though I'm only on a 20 hour contract or if I'm working my contracted hours on it, I've to come in later and work 4 hours to the finish time of the Rural. Is this right? Am I not able to work more than my 4 hours a day from the start time of the Rural but less than the set finish time of the Rural if I want if I'm over my 4 hours a day?

What hours are shown on your contract if it's something like "between the hours of 7am to 7pm" it seems the manager is within their rights?

Although is there any middle ground the manager will agree to i.e. you'll start when the duty has been fully prepped?

What do other p/t'er do when they cover the duty as sounds to me your manager is hoping he can make you complete the full duty?

If you can only do 4 hours, then the manager will want the walk delivering. He can get any dogsbody/multiple dogsbodies/light duties/trainee managers to:

Dogsbody one: Sequenced in
Dogsbody two: Flats
Dogsbody three: packets and parcels
Dogsbody four: Check re-dirs, remaining odds and ends

Leaving you to do all the outdoor work.

Manager can't get four dogsbodys out onto the remaining bits of delivery that you can't do in four hours the other way round.

However, if manager is expecting you to prep AND deliver then that's a different ball game entirely.
