MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Hi all
Just been looking at MGV driver jobs and wondered what the pay/rates are.
Position is 38.5 hours per week working 2200 > 0600am over 5 days.
Job description says £603 salary (obviously before tax) Are there any other rates to be added on top of this (night rates) etc.
What would be the “take home” wage for this role roughly give or take ? If there are any MGV drivers on here willing to share what they get on average that would be appreciated.
Kind Regards

You get another £105 on top of that for night rate allowance. Plus a payrise is around the corner aswell. Your looking at about £575 take home pay

Think there is a MGV allowance as well which is around £8 per shift

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Hi,
I have just been offered a 38 hour MGV role, but no details of hours apart from it's reserve and all hours to be considered, but mainly lates / nights. Is this role due a new pay rate from the £602 advertised soon ?. Annual leave states 22.5, I am guessing the 8 Bank Hol are in addition to this and are paid days off ?
Thanks,

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Yes, bank holidays are paid.
Yes, you will be starting as a reserve doing all shifts.
Earlies, middles lates & nights.
But speak to individual who does the duties & tell him/her what shift you like to be on the most, it won’t guarantee you that shift but it will help.
If you can speak to duty holder a wk before you do it, they will often go through it with you.
Beats deliveries by a mile, you guys/girls have my sympathy for the s**t show happening.

HI, thanks for your reply and the information. I'm totally new to Royal Mail, but looking forward to the change in career / job following on from 20 years in public transport.

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Hi,
With the pending pay deal, what will the new weekly rate be for 38 hours MGV, and the night rate allowance for 4 nights please ? . I have been offered a role but been told will be all night as there’s no vacancies on other rotas.
Thanks PH

Night allowance of approximately £110.
Wkly pay £625ish.Total £735 ish!
You will probably have to do your “tour of duty” for a year, however it does depend on your office, turnover of staff & vacancies advertised.

Hi Jb1969,
Many thanks for your reply. The role I was interviewed for was a Reserve, but this has since been changed to a nights role only, of mainly 4 nights 38 hours. I’m still thinking about accepting this offer.
They have told me at NWMC that I will be expected to do full nights for a least 6 months, with no guarantee of any lates / days etc.

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
' tour of duty', does that mean around 6 / 12 months on nights before I could be considered a move onto Lates etc ? The role was a reserve, but I've since been told its full time nights. I guess if I work a 5th night for RD work, do you get night allowance for that too ?

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Tour of duty normally means 12 months, but this can vary from office to office.
If your on a 4 day duty, that would be 38hrs divided by 4 days.
However you might have long & short days.
If you did a 5th night, that would be overtime.
RM micro manage most things now, so our Tacho must be perfect.
If your from outside of RM it can take a little getting used to, some delivery offices are tight to manoeuvre into.
If your from delivery, jump ship, we have had numerous delivery guys/girls & not one has regretted it.
Vacant jobs are normally advertised internally, don’t wait 12 months to apply, if your from outside see one you like look of, apply.
Successful applicant will normally be the one with most seniority.
Hope this helps

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
And no, the 5th night is a slightly enhanced pay rate, but only for the first 10 hours.
I don’t do overtime, but certainly would not recommend going over that 10 hours, pay rate is shite!

Re: MGV Driver - 2025 pay rates
Hi JB1969,
I'm yet to accept the offer for the MGV role as it was advertised as a reserve but now only Nights. I'm coming from 20 years Bus and Coach, so this is completely new to me ( OK with Tacho ). What I need to consider is the nights role, and how long for, and the pay and allowance rates. I feel the overall package is better than bus, especially it's 4 nights rota and not 5. I think it's 38 hours (9.30 ) per duty.
Thanks for sharing the new base pay and night allowance. I just need to make a decision, and work out if I will be OK moving many heavy mail cages, and doing Nights. Lates would be my preffered hours.

I work delivery and fancy a move into this. Anyone know where the internal vacancies are advertised?
