Inflation and pay rises
Now that inflation is at 4.2 percent and our pay deal is the same figure does that mean that we're effectively getting a 3 year pay freeze? Or am I missing something. I hope you all voted no to the turd deal.

Pay deal is a joke. Should not be a 3 year deal at such a low rate even with the tin opener clause they will probably tell Wardy 3% is all we can afford. Inflation is too high for everyone to be given crumbs.

Why are you quibbling over 0.4%? The pay deal is a joke. When Kretinsky said he wanted to be the Amazon of postal operators did that mean replicating their pay awards also?Sean06 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025, 16:24Can only go what news are reporting an it says 3.8% if you know better maybe your in wrong job.Postie Malone wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025, 14:43Are you sure?Sean06 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025, 13:58Inflation is 3.8%.funkflex55 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025, 08:23Now that inflation is at 4.2 percent and our pay deal is the same figure does that mean that we're effectively getting a 3 year pay freeze? The company is going to profit massively when they slash the USO, some of that money should come to us.

There's no real signs of the USO changes saving them money so far! You do have to wonder if those figures were plucked out of thin hair by the previous board.datasaint wrote: ↑21 Aug 2025, 09:57Why are you quibbling over 0.4%? The pay deal is a joke. Re: Inflation and pay rises
CPI is the rate at which the prices of goods and services bought by households rise and fall. It's an average figure that uses the prices of over 700 goods and services, which might include anything from cat food to electricity.
CPI(H) is essentially the same except it also includes housing costs such as repairs and council tax.
RPI is now not recognised as an accurate measure of inflation, but is still sometimes used for wage or pension increases.
It's planned to phase it out by 2030 and be replaced by CPI(H).
CPI(H) is the most relevant for the majority of the UK population and is the method the Office of National Statistics says is the most accurate.
But in practice every household/individual will effectively have their own personal rate of inflation based on what they spend their money on.
The two major reasons given for the recent increase was the cost of air travel and food. So if you don't travel abroad, your own personal rate of inflation might be lower than the stated rate.
Or if you have a big family and lots of mouths to feed, increased food costs might mean a bigger impact.
If both apply, you've had it!
CPI is used by the government probably because it tends to be the lowest, but it's also inline with European regulations.

Re: Inflation and pay rises
BoE use all 3 figures.
Question is, what's most relevant to your cost of living when it comes to judging our pay?
The cost of stuff you buy (not including anything housing related)? In this case we're getting a very small pay rise this year, zero in year 2-3.
Or the cost of stuff you buy INCLUDING house related stuff? In this case we're getting a zero pay rise this year, and a pay cut in year 2 and 3.
I know which is most relevant to me.
