New Delivery model

Post by chickenwittle »

Hearing we are now moving towards 1 in 2 Saturdays off with Saturdays still an early finish. Also talking about longs and shorts so assuming weds/ thurs longer days . Also talking about staying permanently on your own duty now rather than being moved about. How do we feel this will play out ? I’m fully expecting a CWU pile on from the usual suspects but in reality it would have been stupidity to sign off on a model that was doomed to failure.

RM gonna let CWU design this stage of USO then 18 months or so down line say,it’s not enough savings go back to offcom to have minimal letter service.

Just more of the same old rearranging of the deckchairs on the titanic.

What it really all boils down to is that there isn’t even people to do the job properly and all this 3 doing 4 and long&shorts and 1 in 2 Saturdays won’t change a thing.

Ofcom won’t entertain Royal Mail again anytime soon but obviously you’re right about savings and that’s always going to be an issue, time will tell .

Which podcast? The one with Dave and Martin?

I never heard 1 in 2 Sats off mentioned

All I heard is they are going to the business with a new proposal of a 'light and heavy' model which addresses the issue of non drivers, fatigue and people moved off their duties

They said its being put to the executive next week and more details will come out after that
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

1 in 2 and earlier Saturdays was mentioned, either you are both in on the Saturday and finish early, or 1 of you is in and the other is off.

I believe that staff having 1 in every 2 Saturdays off was the original plan all along and the union originally introduced something a bit more complex like 2 in every 5 Saturdays knowing that they would eventually fallback on something more simpler that everyone can understand. If you think about it, it benefits the company to have less staff working on a Saturday and it benefits the workforce because more staff want weekends off. So it's win-win. The only disadvantage is that it will be a busier Monday letters wise so if the company still intends to deliver the 2c on alternative days, then they will need to put duties in to reflect the increase in the call rate on the day.

I also don't think having staff working Monday to Friday with the option of SA on a Saturday is viable as it is not going to work in every office, especially when some staff are also contracted to work Sundays as well.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Agree, hence the talk of long and shorts , assuming longs Monday , weds, thurs , shorts tues , sat etc.

.
Not necessarily if the model is 'long days and short days' the time would come from having a longer working day on the Monday
