How us Newbies are treated
This is how we “Newbies” are treated
DP duties
Over 20 off us Newbies were encouraged to apply for full time hours on 9 day fortnight working every other Sunday - an improvement on existing Rota of 5 out of 6 Sundays
Awarded 40 hours a week
Waited 5-6 weeks for New nine day fortnight rota
Now told a few days before it starts that we will still be on five day week, no paid breaks, days up to 9.5 hours, working compulsory 5 out every 6 Sundays with Sunday hours increasing to 7.5 hours -
Unions not interested even though they put it in writing on the application sheet that it was for 9 day fortnight -
DoM says “thats it - final”
And you wonder why the majority of Newbies jack or don’t care - the company and the unions don’t give a monkeys about us

Re: How us Newbies are treated
Two of our better & early DPR drivers walked out last week, being told they will not be replaced, seems RM are having a re-think on this afternoon delivery bonkers idea? I have a feeling these packets will soon be back with the posties.

5 out of 6 Sundays! Heck that would be me on the verge of walking out, I HATE doing Sundays, ours went from 1 in 8 weeks s to now 1 every month, and we thought we were hard done by.. I seriously could not do 5/6

Re: How us Newbies are treated
Welcome to the toxic world of Royal Mail.
We all wish they would fix it, but it's something we all have to tolerate whilst working here.
Also welcome to the disorganised, illogical world of Royal Mail where they do things like stick a 40 hour contract worker with a 30 hour contract worker who both have different start and finish times. One has to drive the other back to the office early. What a way to waste money.
How the heck did we end up with posties with different finish times and also end up putting them in van-shares together.

I sympathise with you, following talking about levelling up the gaps are opening up not closing and turn over of labour is worse than ever

I know you feel hard done by, but if you enjoy the job suck it up, you will probably find they change their mind yet again and maybe it will swing in your favour.Agencyoap wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 00:35This is how we “Newbies” are treated

It's always been the way in RM, the managers treat newbies and agency like something they stood on, managers aren't the sharpest tools in the box, most are failed posties and find their job beyond them and stressful, passing on the pain they are feeling is their only outlet.
If you can ride it out i think things will improve, but then again is it worth it.
Don't think the job itself will get any better, but maybe the longer you are in the better you are treated.

The CWU never agreed to a 2 tier workforce, Royal Mail implemented it , it’s their business to run remember.Thommo44 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 08:15Never mind, the CWU are talking about levelling up in SeptemberAgencyoap wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 00:35This is how we “Newbies” are treated

Re: How us Newbies are treated
I never said the CWU implemented it, but since the strike Royal Mail has implemented whatever they want and are still doing it. We can say we want to level up, but in reality it’s not going to happen, they might get the paid breaks if they are lucky but there will still be a massive gap in pay and conditionschickenwittle wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 09:30The CWU never agreed to a 2 tier workforce, Royal Mail implemented it , it’s their business to run remember.Thommo44 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 08:15Never mind, the CWU are talking about levelling up in SeptemberAgencyoap wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 00:35This is how we “Newbies” are treated

Re: How us Newbies are treated
The CWU are entirely to blame because they have no interest in organising the post 2022 contract workers. This is why no worker on the post 2022 contracts should give the CWU a penny until the contracts are the same as the pre 2022 ones.

The CWU didn’t agree those contracts and are on a pathway to change them but that doesn’t suit your narrative of course.tramssirhc wrote: ↑26 Jul 2025, 14:22The CWU are entirely to blame because they have no interest in organising the post 2022 contract workers.
