Parcels through the roof, Mondays now very busy

Post by FirstPost »

Two things I’ve noticed in the past six weeks, Mondays are like Wednesdays for parcels and every other weekday is very busy for this time of the year?

It varies, my oversized today was the least I’ve ever had on a Wednesday. But yes,Mondays do seem to be busier though.

Parcels basically haven’t dropped off after Xmas 2024. Every day we are rammed. Long gone are the days when you look at your parcel yorke and say “not too bad”. Our shared van now gets one full of small parcels and between 2 and 4 full of large. Fatigued to f**k and really not looking forward to Walsh’s ODM tearing through our office.

Parcels are crazy these days. Our current DPR routes are unsustainable unless it’s a Tuesday.

RM pursuing every contract they can get, the fact us posties on the ground are struggling with the work load doesn't seem to factor in. The shein contract for example has put a massive burden on us.

Yep for those of us that take out oversize, packets and mail you just can't complete, even if one does the parcels and the other just walks with a trolly, it's impossible to clear both walks, your forever playing catch up!

A good few of the parcel yorks that you're getting must be direct from the hubs as we seem quiet for packets. Do a sizeable chunk of the yorks have labels that are purple and white?

Volume is up a lot with the new ASOS contract and I’m assuming a new Amazon contract as well.

We now probably get as many purple and white labelled cross docked yorks from the hubs as we do purple labelled yorks from the mail centre. We cover 2 postcode areas and the small packet yorks from the hubs arrived mixed and have to be double handed where as the ones that have been sorted by PSM’s at the mail centre arrived segregated into postcode areas so the increase in work from the hubs has just increased the time the IPS takes.

It might also be that the a lot of the LAT routes on a Sunday have been axed (at least in our MC) as a result of them being not financially viable and that work is now being rolled into the Monday workload. One DO in our area now has an additional 12 Yorks on Monday because of this.

So people in here saying we have new Amazon, Shien and ASOS contracts.... all true? I heard about the ASOS one.

For me, I'd say parcels are not too bad this year. Usually between 30 and 50 Tracked and I'd say the average this year for my round has been 43.

Tracked numbers above 50, especially above 60 starts to make things difficult to complete, but luckily that's been rare this year for me.

I think the majority of packet yorks coming into the office are purple/white labels rather than red PSM.

Whoever is working the former is reponsible for plenty of stuff going into damage bags. 'Sorry your fragile item was crushed. It wasn't me that put three 20kg Amazon packets on top of it.'
The machine stops.

Large are much more now, last year I might have 70-80 + specials and bag drops now it’s 100+ on lighter day with 10+ specials etc. I used to help walkers with smaller parcels & businesses but that’s not possible now as I go over most days when busy.

Yup, we are buried in it every day. Its fine and a sign business is good but our system is not designed for this. Our managers are still trying to pressure people on performance when the reality has long been we can't cope. Our duties havnt completed in years, manager still acts as if we are the problem. RM needs to get its house in order.
