Threatened With Wilful Delay
Afternoon DPR driver that has to wait for a van to come back from morning posties.
Ready to leave and go get a van, sign it out, check range 30 miles, not on charge, go get another van and sign it out range 20 miles, go back get another van 50 miles (45%) take this one as 60 miles on a 20 mile drive should be ok ?
Within an hour I'm down to 32% and about 32 miles.
GPS on my PDA decided to show a blank screen so useless and as I was delivering in a area I've never covered I needed it.
Mentioned to a (Agency) dropping off a PDA to me about my battery level on van who clearly spoke to the guy running our afternoon DPR about this as I got a call 5 mins later stating I'm an idiot and should take out a van with higher range.
The same twat that said taking out a van with 50 mile range is fine just don't use the heater back in December.
Fine. from now I'll try 3 vans and if they don't have 80% charge I'll sit on a charger until it's there.

Sounds like hybrids are a better option....but RM chose to go full electric.
You need that insurance policy of having a vehicle that at least runs partly on fuel. Not just because charging infrastructure is poor, but because there could be power cuts.
I guess wilful delay is....you came back as battery was running down and parcels didn't get delivered....

Some if not all of the electric vans are self charging if you use the brake function correctly, you take your foot off the accelerator and let the van slow down by itself rather than braking. This can ‘buy’ you a few miles, I know someone in my office reckons he came back with the same miles as he left.

Re: Threatened With Wilful Delay
This is true but some models, the ones we have have, do not activate the brake light when regen braking. This means you're possibly going to get rear ended. A s**t thing to cut costs on and for this reason I won't be using regen braking.SMS1969 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025, 09:54Some if not all of the electric vans are self charging if you use the brake function correctly, you take your foot off the accelerator and let the van slow down by itself rather than braking. Re: Threatened With Wilful Delay
Why don't they make it the responsibility of the person who locks up at the end of the day to ensure that all electric vans are hooked up to the chargers and charging?
How long have you had the electric vans? If you've had them a long time they might be getting towards the end of their useful life (maximum number of charge cycles).

Or even better how about making it an instruction that when you return you must plug the van in, if you don't or forget it's a friendly reminder followed by a warning then an official warning.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025, 11:35Why don't they make it the responsibility of the person who locks up at the end of the day to ensure that all electric vans are hooked up to the chargers and charging?
We don't have any electric vans so I don't know what the charger situation is but if there's one available for every van I think what I've said above should be enforced.

You'll be lucky if there's one charger for every 3 vans.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025, 11:43Or even better how about making it an instruction that when you return you must plug the van in, if you don't or forget it's a friendly reminder followed by a warning then an official warning.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025, 11:35Why don't they make it the responsibility of the person who locks up at the end of the day to ensure that all electric vans are hooked up to the chargers and charging?

Re: Threatened With Wilful Delay
Each van at ours is allocated two days a week to charge them, it’s the duty holders or whoever is driving them on that given day to make sure that they’re charged, as we’ve got only ten charging points and more electric vans than that.

Re: Threatened With Wilful Delay
How is that working out? Our diesel vans are the walk holders responsibility to keep fuelled and it just doesn't happen.
