"Leader" Experiences
Looking for experiences of others that fill a leader type role in their office. In my case, i don't quite qualify for leader allowance, but do a lot of jobs that apparently aren't seen as important enough to attract an extra payment. I look after ORA. I look after Route Manager. I look after FDS and SISO. I run collections in the evening and make sure all collections are completed, and sort any that are missed. All on the wage of an OPG, but with added stress and responsibility. I also cover manage saturdays and dual role as PHG as they have every saturday off. All a bit much some days. I enjoy the job but feel a bit overloaded at times. Is anyone else in the same boat?

If you don't like your duty just do a normal OPG duty, ie walks.

Re: "Leader" Experiences
I should have made it a bit clearer that i wanted the experiences of other leaders. The title and mention in the main body clearly wasn't enough for you. I'll use pictures and crayons next time
To answer your question, i'm no longer an OPG, but do delivery when the need arises. I'd probably do your own walk more efficiently and with no complaints
Have a great weekend.

Re: "Leader" Experiences
What you need to do is politely decline to cover the managers day off and hand back all the additional tasks. With in a week they will be throwing money at you to come back and do it. Know your own value. If like you say you are capable of doing deliveries then offer to go back on the bag for a week. They will soon change their tune. Too many people end up doing this extra stuff as a way of getting off delivery without getting the recognition and reward for it.

Thank you for the reply. It's how i was thinking of handling things, but it's good to have others' input.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑05 Jul 2025, 11:41What you need to do is politely decline to cover the managers day off and hand back all the additional tasks. As a bare minimum you should be on the coaches allowance, as you also say you should qualify for either leadership money or substitution if youre covering a com, also you should really be listed as a trainee manager

What's a leader? Is it a workplace coach? In all my 28 years I've never heard of a leader!!

Me neither sounds like a cross between former Phg/trainee manager/workplace coach/managers pet office brown noser etc.

Re: "Leader" Experiences
Shadowing opportunities is a great way to get familiar with management duties but SuccessFactors is the go-to system and you should find all internal vacancies on there. You should be able to access it via myroyalmail.com but it is best accessed via a workplace computer in a delivery office, if you can get your hands on one.
Surely you know this though
