Help with relocation to another office
I started to work for Royal Mail in August 2023. My contract was for wednesday>Sunday 1pm till 7pm; 30 hours a week. As they were short staffed they put me on the 845 start which was promptly changed to 745 and then with winter alteration to 725am. I was then put on the student loop and up until last month was working well over 15-20 hours of overtime a week on top of my 30 hours.
I have now been told that I am going to be taken off monday>friday, taken off my loop and put on the original contract days and hours and put in a van with parcels. I imagine that somewhere in their sketch they are wanting me to work overtime but my days out rather than adding onto beofre or after a shift,.
In the five months I've been there I have been told I dont get door to door suppliment though my colleague does ( the union has still not appealed this), working 10 hours a day instead of 6, had issued uniform I have ordered not been issued on two occassions now, been gaslighted by management for their mistakes (runner of tracked parcels placed where they asked and they forgot about them).
The activity in the job has done wonders for my mental health as I have had a long history of anxiety being stiffled in enclosed environments. I love the job but I am seriously at my wits end with three floor managers unable to communicate my start times (occassionally revised without my knowledge), their inability to meet anyone halfway and their shrugging off good will when overtime is worked begrudgedkly because of sickness and abscence.
My question is; five months into this role, who can I contact, if it is indeed possible, to suggest the relocation to another office? I worked at a smaller office recentlt and the difference there is night and day with regard to the management side of things. I'm in such a distressing postion because I truly enjoy the job but I just cant take this BS anymore and need to know what my options are now rather than later.
Thank you for any help you can spare.

Re: Help with relocation to another office
You got employed on a specific hours contract and you have had a temporary taste of something else and now you don't want to perfom the hours of the original contract?
I posted a thread entitled "it's over" you may want to read it.
Now that xmas pressure is over it is time for the reckoning to begin.............

You will be treated badly for the first two years. Then things will get slightly better. You are working alongside colleagues who get paid more because their terms and conditions were created before the carpet baggers and the asset stripper's started and there's far too many of them to fire and re hire. You need to get the main phone number of the main manager work at the DO you want to work at and ring him directly with your proposal and see what they say. Applying via HR or via your manager at your current office is generally a waste of time. Good luck.

As above comment, Id agree that's the best advice, go see the manager at the smaller office you worked at and see if they can help.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to relocate straight away, I thought you had to do a year in post before you could switch offices but I'm not 100%.

Re: Help with relocation to another office
Definitely watching this thread although I've been at Royal Mail for years!
I recently went on sick with work related stress due to the constant bullying and harassment of a particular line manager who would impose impossible workloads (ie quadruple lapsing on a solo duty) whilst refusing to pay overtime and insisting complete on time on pain of disciplinary (yes I know of cutting off but you easily forget this in the presence of an expert gaslighter).
Going on sick prompted the DOM in my office (with some pushing from my union rep) to move me into a different postcode area albeit in the same office and although superficially my situation has improved my old lino still lurks around despite apparently being ordered to stay away from me. A transfer through the official route seems difficult if not impossible...
So would actually going to another office and speaking to the manager there be the best way forward? I have previously been "loaned" to smaller (mainly rural) offices in the past and the difference is vast in regards of worker-manager relations, workload and even the quality of customer dare I say so I have a couple of locations in mind. Also how would I approach such a conversation with one of these managers? What would you say?
Cheers in advance

Re: Help with relocation to another office
Disregard the unhelpful comments,
Firstly I’d talk to your local union rep about the rules on transferring to a different office. I’d also ask them about your working hours and if management want to change them to give you some notice period (outside of your contracted hours)
With regards to management if you feel they are being unfair to you I’d consider making a diary of issues you have daily take this to your union rep. Maybe just a chat with managers might help(with a rep) put forward your issues and go from there.
I’ve been here for a while now and although I’m on the older contract I did get messed about for a few years (duty wise, different offices etc) it only became a problem when I had my children and they wanted me to do collections while I had school pickup. (Although next year that’ll be everyday
)
Good luck and remember communicating is best especially for mental health otherwise if you’re like me you will stew on it.
Good luck

Re: Help with relocation to another office
I honestly can't see working for RM getting any easier mentally or physically. The thing about covering at another DO for a few days doesn't give you an accurate overview of that office. I would like to think that somewhere there is still a well run adequately staffed DO, but I doubt it. That's why you were sent to cover in the first place.

Re: Help with relocation to another office
Why not just call their bluff and accept the new role? If your office is anything like mine then they'll soon come back begging you to work o/t-start early.

Assuming he's on a new contract there's quite a few things his colleagues get and he doesn't!

Re: Help with relocation to another office
as others have said - contact the manager at the other office. Tell them why you want to work there - ie you enjoyed it more when you worked here temp. Importantly, get a date from them for when you can start/when there would be a vacancy for you. Ask them to contact your current COM (only after you have already spoken to your current COM)
Get your union rep involved.
Tell you current COM what you want to do. He/she will try to talk you out of it, they don't want to lose your experience. Insist.
This will normally be enough - if not get the union rep involved and escalate if necessary.
