Replacement of STAR guns in lockers

Post by SpacePhoenix »

Anyone know when the replacement of the STAR guns with using PDAs in the locker goes live? When I log-in to a PDA I get "Secure Locker" come up on the main menu. Don't know if everyone will have it on their log-in or just those who are currently locker trained.

I've heard that it only allows a single dispatch to be open at a time so DOs where the stuff goes in sleeves will get over a dozen DUNs in each sleeve as most locker staff will have around half a dozen dispatches open at the same time on the STAR guns

I believe it is getting rolled out in early May, there will not be any Duns, you scan the items to the office barcode as normal and new labels will be used which have a barcode that is scanned on receipt at inward MC which will tell you you how many items should be in the bag. That is the just of what I know.
I assume there will be training which will clarify the processes to be followed.
I have seen the new labels as we have them in the addressograph room here.
Our Star guns are knackered and need replacing so it will be interesting to see how it works.
Better than the old way when I first got trained having to write out registered receipts using manual balances and sticking returned receipts back in the book daily.

I expect we'll carry on scanning each individual item in, as for well over 80% of the bags/sleeves the DUNs are wrong. Think many if not all the DOs in our area scan the individual items in from the bags/sleeves that we send them anyway

If you don’t check how many items received via the dun, you should always scan each item on arrival in DO locker. That way the customer knows his item has arrived, the totals are correct, and worst case scenario no items have gone missing

The DUNs for dispatches between MCs are so unreliable now that we never trust them, we scan every item. In any case unless you scan every item at the DO how do you know that the items on the DUN are the items that are actually in the sleeve/bag/york?

Replaced our STAR with PDA in Jan, we dont get DUN notes anymore so we just scan each item to walk.

You are correct to scan every item on arrival. If you work on the inward SD’s in the MC make sure you scan as ‘collected’ on the Inward stream and not outward on the star gun. Otherwise your shift will not get credited with the inward work.

Scanning every item in the DO rather than scanning via the DUN will show on the system if any items are missing

I always scan the items as "Bag Received Without DUN" if I'm ever working in our locker

We check and scan in all bags we tip on inward night shift in Aberdeen MC, correct Duns are receive bag scan, incorrect Duns are scanned in receive mail then scanning the items in bag so that the missing items are not given a false scan that we have received them or the unadvisedly extra items are given an inward scan. With no Dun bags the items are scanned in on inward Bag received without DUN as someone said.

This wasn’t possible during COVID as volumes were so high that it just couldn’t be done which didn’t sit well with me tbh.

So many bags now either the DUN is wrong or missing so we just scan the contents of each bag/sleeve as "Bag without DUN". The large/oversize get done on "Receive Collection". DUNs tbqf are bullshit anyway. I could have a DUN for say 12 items from another MC but each of the 12 items on the DUN could be in a different MC and not in either the bag or at the originating MC

That’s the correct way to do it.
