My offer to Royal Mail.

Post by norris9 »

My offer to Royal Mail...

1. You give all workers an 8% pay rise. I don't give a crap if it isn't backdated - just start paying it from Friday.

2. No change in start and finish times and no annualised hours as you have described. JUST STOP PEOPLE GOING HOME EARLY IN SUMMER! - AND GET THOSE LAZY BUGGAS TO STAY UNTIL THEIR FINISH TIMES! - doing door2doors or cleaning cars or filling vans with fuel or delivering any parcels left. Stop allowing posties to walk off the premises early! - maybe even ask them to go and help another postie out before coming back to the depot.

3. I believe Sunday working has already been more or less agreed upon. The extra pay for Sundays will be gradually reduced over time. Volunteers will be the ones working Sundays.

4. Redundancies. It seems these are already happening in the North West due to the parcel hubs in that area - fine. Callers Counters going - fine - as long as those in the callers counters can stay on as employees in other areas of the business - postal/sorting. Anyone who has a disability and cannot move to another part of the business should be paid off adequately. Voluntary Redundancies are happening - fine. Right - that's enough! if you want to get rid of anyone else - get rid of the people that applied for VR.

5. Revisions. If you're thinking of making rounds bigger and therefore unachievable, then wake the hell up! it's not going to work! - No ridiculous revisions! - make some common sense revisions! there are rounds that exist that are 20 minutes too short and rounds that are 20 minutes too long. It doesn't take a genius to work out what to do in this situation.

Done. Kicked some sense into the situation. Compromise and logic.

On top of this - now bugga off!! nobody believes in current management. We need new CEOs. Some people with common sense and who are TEAM leaders.

Every DO is not like yours I guess .

We had a revision 12 years ago that we have never recovered from. Only two teams can complete in summer and that's to the wire .
Our mail doesn't dip. We have more new builds going on every other month. Mail is through the roof

Why is it that the majority of stamps on letter's do not seem to be cancelled, could that mean they are not even been counted. Hence that would show letter's are down.also has anyone had say 2 parcels tracked for same house and both parcels have the same track numbers, would that mean they have only paid once

Definitely need backpay or it isn’t a real pay rise as was due in April later starts will happen but it might suit a few like Sundays don’t have a problem with annualised hours if managed properly and means more time off in the summer as we know how hard it is to get time off then or when u want it vr for everyone who wants it and see what’s left things are falling anyway so saying can’t go because of staff shortages is rubbish

Regarding point 4 I don't know why redundancies are such an issue. I bet 25% of our office want leave and know of people who have pretty much begged to get VR and i'm sure it must be the same in other offices.

THESE TWO POINTS! Why haven’t managers been penalised for not getting a grip on staff who blatantly finish early every day and simply go home? Why do these staff think bragging about finishing early is okay? They are killing the job.

Some walks are much shorter than others and others are about 4 loops too long. Why has this been allowed to continue for years?

Voluntary redundancies isn't the issue , it's the compulsory ones .

Why is CR even an issue? I thought voluntary numbers were massively over the number they want to go

Aren’t they keeping us in the dark about that so that we will fear job losses even more than we already are?

That all depends where you are . For example in my mate's MC management want 130 to go . Apparently more than that have enquired but that doesn't mean to say they will accept it . My mate reckons there's quite a few time wasters in there . Say only 50 actually accept the offer, how will that MC get rid of the other 80 ? Offering transfers to other units would be the logical answer but nowhere have I seen management offering this although it was part of our last agreement that management have torn up .

The people they really want to be rid of, won’t be the ones applying for VR. I have no sympathy for managers on that issue because they are paid the big bucks to not let people get away murder.

The redundancy issue is more complicated than us posties know. What actually is Royal Mail's plan. Would they like to get rid of all of us, would they like to get rid of a % of us - maybe the ones that have been here less than 2 years as it would cost them nothing to get rid of, or would they just like to get rid of workers who are in caller's counters and work in mail centres near the hubs?

So the redundancy one is hard for someone like us to get a grasp of. I am not sure the CWU know the exact plan Royal Mail have, but they probably know more than they've told us.
