All CWU Members it is Time for Action and Time to be seen

Dear Colleague

The CWU have called all members to take strike action this Friday and Saturday (30th September & 1st October).
Royal Mail’s announcement last week makes it crystal clear that they want to go much further in attacking your terms and conditions then previously announced.
Royal Mail served notice that they want to cease a further 20 National Agreements. This is in addition to their previous proposals.

So, in addition to the following:
1. Compulsory Sunday working for all staff by national / Area rotation at Monday - Saturday pay rates.
2. All start times for Inward mail Centre, Professional drivers and Delivery staff to move later by up to 3 hours later.
3. All large parcels will be delivered in the afternoon/ evening from circa 346 Delivery Offices. This means for the 940 Delivery Offices who lose this workload they will lose jobs and will have longer delivery spans.
4. Royal Mail want to introduce annualised hours so everyone has to complete and clear their duty / shift or office regardless of the time it takes.
5. Royal Mail want to cease a number of allowances which will see a pay reduction for many. In addition, for those who receive the RRIS payment, the removal of this payment will see 30 thousand postal workers up to £35 worse of per week.
6. Royal Mail want to pay for any statuary sick pay for any sick absences after the first in any year. Please note that Statuary sick pay is £98 per week.
7. Royal Mail want to recruit new entrants on worse terms and conditions.

Last week Royal Mail made the following new proposals:
a. The serving of the notice on the legal protections which now allow the company to break up the company, franchise parts, outsource workload and to recruit new entrants on worse terms and conditions.
b. To end any trials and for Royal Mail to be able to introduce any change without first seeing how it works or its impact.
c. Royal Mail now want to be able to use all data for any use including resourcing and for conduct purpose, this includes PDA OA if staff finish before time and Trimble if someone is speeding.
d. Royal Mail want to now introduce individual performance standards and if individuals don’t mean those standards they want to manage those out of the business.
e. They want to change the sick absence procedure to make it easier to dismiss.
f. They want to change the role of the CWU to make it easier for Royal Mail to introduce change. This means Royal Mail no longer want to negotiate change only consult that the change is happening.
g. Royal Mail want to remove the role of the Area and Divisional Reps to make change easier to deploy.
h. Royal Mail have served notice and want to cease the way the CWU collection membership contributions to try and reduce membership levels and make the union weaker to attack terms and conditions easier.

It is clear that Royal Mail have declared war on its loyal hard-working staff.

Therefore, it is essential that all members show that you are up for the fight against Royal Mail by attending your picket line.
In addition, on Saturday 1st October the CWU are holding a demonstration at Mount Pleasant. This will take place at 12:00hrs and Dave Ward and Mick Lynch will be speaking.
This really needs to be a show a strength by CWU members. If you are serious about winning this dispute then strike days must become days of action.
Families and Friends are welcome at the event. The RMT who are also on strike that day will also be in attendance and they will be marching from Kings Cross to the demo at the Mount.

Please support this event and show you are in total opposition to Royal Mails plans and will fight them all the way.
