Grant Says
CWU gives formal notice of ballot for industrial action
I am disappointed to report the CWU has now given us formal notification of a ballot for industrial action on the basis of our pay offer.
We made an offer to the CWU of a package worth up to 5.5% this year for CWU grade colleagues; a 2% unconditional offer and we told the CWU up to a further 3.5% was available subject to us agreeing a series of changes and a new ‘above and beyond’ bonus.
We understand that ballot papers will be issued on 28th June 2022 and the ballot will be open for three weeks, with results expected on 19thJuly.
The threat of industrial action is damaging for your company
Even the threat of industrial action is damaging for our business at a time of increasing economic uncertainty and intense competitive pressure.
Many of our major customers use multiple carriers and can switch volume away from Royal Mail quickly if they believe that industrial action is imminent. It is highly likely some of our customers will give that business to our competitors and this work may not ever come back.
This is also the time when our large customers make decisions about which carriers they will use for peak, and it makes winning new business much tougher too.
Our commitment to working with CWU to agree a deal
I am sorry that despite our best efforts we did not manage to reach agreement with the CWU.
We have already given an unconditional 2% pay rise that will be paid in July and there is more on the table provided we can agree some essential changes that will help secure our future. We do want to pay more – but to do that we need a pay deal for tomorrow, not just today.
Our working relationship with the CWU is important. We are engaged in further talks this week to discuss the changes and I hope we can make more progress.
We remain committed to working with the CWU to grow this business and ensure long term job security for all of you.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The company wants to concentrate on parcels. Of course strike action will damge the company (that's kind of the point) as parcel customers will use other couriers instead and probably won't return to RM.
RM imposing a derisory real terms pay cut on their staff is the reason that I will vote for strike action. If that sends RM into terminal decline due to the loss of customers then the other couriers who benefit from the demise of RM will have jobs going. Que sera sera!

Ah Grant. Another one who knows jack s**t about our business and what our job entails. Last little payday for him before retiring just like Simon Thompson. None of these cretins care about the long term of RM, just please the board over the next year then a fat pay off. The whole business will be in flames as they walk out the door smiling.

It's simple Grant - you don't give a f**k about us, so we do the same in return

Royal Mail worrying about losing money/business if we strike.....and they expect us to care? - Why would we care when they are causing us Posties to lose money.
Do the maths. Inflation at 11%, our pay rise of 2%, when we are in low paid work in the first place. We are all going to be skint.
It will no longer be worth being a Postie at all for the loss of real income we will be facing.

So, dear ole super Si and his minions are worried about the threat of strike action will have on the business? Ok time for a dose of reality for these bosses. If you impose a pay rise which is 8% or so below inflation and then it “slips” out that the top table are creaming off huge bonuses from the £750M profit that your workforce earned for for you while you were sat at home during Covid, then fault is yours not that of the workforce. The mere fact that these bonuses are paid just adds to the total disdain and anger felt by every member of the union, it seems that all that is happening at the boardroom in RM is a quick dash for cash (get the position(s) milk it for as long as possible and leave a lot richer. 2% actual and 3.5% dependent is nowhere near the mark, then expected to sell out T&C’s is not acceptable!

The problem with them is they don’t see us as low paid, in their world we have industry leading pay. But as we know, our pay cannot be comparable to any others as they don’t go through the physical and mental stress we regularly go through. Royal Mail delivery is a unique role, but somehow our pay is compared to supermarkets and couriersnorris9 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 22:49Royal Mail worrying about losing money/business if we strike.....and they expect us to care? - Why would we care when they are causing us Posties to lose money.
