New Entrants at 40 hours
Is this new entrants deal such as 40 hours, less pay, sunday working etc, what is now going to be offered to part timers who are looking to get a full time contract? I'm desperate for full time but can't accept that, but is that now what's going to be put on the table? "You can have full time, but you must accept this?"

Re: New Entrants at 40 hours
Sounds like that's their plan.
Imagine doing 40 hours and then being pressured to work over your time.... some may like it... lots of hours to help them make ends meet....
but a lot will crash from exhaustion and quit.
Maybe u will be offered full time work soon, but it may be your last chance to get it on current terms.

Re: New Entrants at 40 hours
So if new starters get 40 hour contracts, will they eventually drop down to the 37/35 hours like everyone else after being there a certain amount of time?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: New Entrants at 40 hours
I think a lot of people are misreading this.
Any new starts will be based on a 40hr contract not given a 40hr contract.
That's where the lower hourly rate comes from.
£24,170 a year outside of London is what we're currently on.
The new starts would have to work 40hrs to get it, we would only
work 37hrs.

Its just not fair and Royal Mail should be ashamed with itself for thinking its acceptable from a so called equal opportunties employer.

How many hours does Simon Thompson do in a nice chair air conditioned office for his £753,000 bet it is not 40 hours a week or weekends!

Re: New Entrants at 40 hours
We hear in the news that there are now more job vacancies than unemployed people. Royal Mail has always struggled to retain staff and with the current conditions they should be making the job more attractive to new starters not less. I see the Wealden district council bin men have just won a rise of 24% to 27% depending on roles. If they were on minimum wage before they would be pretty close to a postman's wage now, could well be on more.
