It didn’t focus their minds in their busiest period of the year , it’s a bargaining tool in the background, nothing else I’m afraid
If they are as near to bust as they claim it will focus them.
As much as I’d love to agree with you , it’s beyond strikes now and the union know that.
Chicken, if you want to give in , go in just do it.

I bet you never suspected your user name would sum you up so perfectly.

I have my doubts like you and everyone else. But at moment, I'm still fighting and hoping.
Far from giving in , just being realistic unlike lots on here calling for more strikes ( which failed at Xmas ) in the middle of difficult talks , let’s see what the union put on the table first.
Oh, so now you're waiting to see what the executive have bagged.
Yet every other post you make tells us we are doomed.

Quick memo to the government: please take RM back into public ownership, with a good workforce we can bring in profits of £300 million a year, which you could use a % into helping rebuild the NHS say. And giving us posties priority hospital treatment ha ha. Can't see any deal now, CWU keep trying, but RM want to run it into the ground and have a total restart with tasty new conditions 😘 International Parcel Despatch and Mickey Mouse letter courier service. Morale ? Ain't got any now, more decent posties leaving soon.
You need to give your head a wobble if you even think that will happen. Taking back RM into public ownership is a poisoned chalice, negative/militant workforce, intense competition for parcels, ongoing rapid decline of letters, ageing and clapped out vehicles, buildings falling into dis-repair, multiple deliveries failing the USO daily, useless and incompetent management, many of the good staff leaving in their droves. I would think that Vince Cable is getting a pat on the back for off loading it when he did!

Management sounds like a good path for you .
Haha no it doesn't, I don't want to have to argue every day with people who are openly and brazenly making the job look harder than it is... hence being annoyed at having to do it as a reserve who gets stuck on routes with people who are just wasting time. And it's not everyone, just had a glut of them this week and it annoys me as I just want to show up on time, do the job as specified, take my breaks and leave on time. I don't want to wait by the van for ages as the duty holder "doesn't trust anyone with the keys" and is sitting on a garden wall down the road smoking
Whattt??? I'm a reserve. It's one key for you and one for the duty holder. Don't see how having a key is going to help you much though. What you going to do, drive off and leave him sitting on that wall?

No, sit in the van listening to the radio, staying warm and dry, giving the legs a rest. Not all vans have got two sets of keys either
because they've been 'lost'! Or even deliver some large parcels in the van but then we get into a discussion about who is allowed
to drive the wagon and that's been done to death on other threads.....

Thing is how the hell do they expect us to work for Royal Mail with better paid lower skilled jobs elsewhere? That are easier and with hours better aligned than the proposals of the diktat from above?!

Traffic is not down council tax and mother's day.
Lol one busy week, which happens every year anyway, is not turning things round. Traffic is down. If you aren’t noticing this, it is because your revision has already made your round unachievable despite this.

Have not said we are doomed once , why don’t you read back through my posts . I have always been fully behind the union but have said striking again is not the answer.

CWU haven't acknowledged the pain that this dispute causes to it's members over such a long period. It's not enough by constantly saying "you guys are amazing" and "we will win this dispute", the bottom line is that lives are being ruined by this situation.

I've worked at Royal Mail for a long time, but I've had two interviews for other jobs in this past week and I'm actively moving on to doing something else.

In the end I've just had enough. Royal Mail became an increasingly shambolic organisation, I'll be glad to see the back of it.
The CWU leadership aren't far behind them in the incompetence stakes, I don't feel like I was ever properly represented by them. I believe the majority of us are bored and weary of being treated like a commodity by the lot of them.

I once loved the earlies, the craic, the community angle of the job but in the end, it's just a job and it's not worth going mental over.

Plenty string it out in my office, come in late , fag breaks etc. , none of that changes my start / finish times , so it’s the managers problem not mine.
Come in late? You can't come in late any more. It's a conduct code now we're scanning in and out.

It’s not a conduct code at my office , rarely mentioned in fact.

Rather than taking it back into public ownership. The government could subsidies the USO element of the business. Because lets be honest it can't honestly expect to say to royalmail you have too deliver six days a week at a loss.

Yet again another topic for discussion almost completely taken over by the doom and gloom brigade, this place is getting worse than "Workplace" and its getting so depressing i can hardly bring myself to look at it. It used to be good lively debate with some good old fashioned banter, occasionally over the top but dealt with by the moderators. Now its a joy to hear Red and filthy as at least they have something to back up their views. This is the problem with social media which allows everybody a voice, which lets face it in a democracy sounds like a good thing, theres just some people whos views are so far out there, and some people latch onto them like its the gospel from himself upstairs, that it becomes a sounding board for people who quite frankly probably walk into walls. Put a bit of thought into your discussion and preferably some substance to your view instead of just saying this is whats happening and nothing to back it up. We are all entitled to our views, but sometimes its better to keep them to yourself.

I agree that the CWU have already helped created a job which only the younger workforce can achieve without considerable physical consequences.

The younger people aren't coping. Who can cope with walking 10 miles a day, 5 days a week. Bending, lifting, twisting. It's exhausting. Everyday my legs ache, everyday my knees burn. Even if you push through with it and stay committed and loyal to the job, whoever you are you will have aches and pains regularly, if not all the time.

The number 1 thing that would make me quit the job is how I feel physically. It's now Sunday and I am shattered and know I have to go and walk another 10 miles tomorrow. It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it.

Imagine someone did a 10 mile walk as a hobby - you'd think they were mental.

What a s**t precedent to set,, buying out a gov company and then getting subsidized on the losing parts its a win win for the shareholders, no they knew what they were getting themselves in for when they brought it ,, if we buy it back we should get all of it not just the losing part whilst shareholders get the parcel profits
