I’ve heard it all now

A strikebreaker telling us the union should have announced longer strikes

Maybe you should have used that period to save up some money rather than now pleading on here that you are strike breaking because you refuse to use food banks whilst saying we should have went on strike for LONGER

If you could have afforded to strike for longer in August and September then you could have afforded to save the money whilst working
well said :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause

we have two 'people' in our place who have been working their days off - hammering the overtime and STILL scab every strike day !

as you say people should have put a bit aside (those that have been working days off etc) to cover for these days, what have they been spending the money on ?

Ask them? Maybe they have crippling debts.
Or just judge them without knowing.

Sup to you.

Where is that nob end getting the idea we have all lost £1200. For a start you would be unlucky for all the strike days to fall on a work day, and by the time you take into account the less tax you pay, it would not be that much anyway even if none of the days landed on rest days. I am quiet content, personally to lose 2 days pay every week indefinitely. by my calculation its a loss of very roughly about £36 per day.
me and my partner have only been paid for ONE strike day ! and for peoples info i picked up £160 this week but i would rather starve than be a scab !
What a hero! You would rather starve than go to work! Wow.

The difference between them and you is they won’t be saying we should have went on strike for longer and contradicting themselves

I’ve not abused you once. Just pulling apart your argument. It doesnt wash at all

So you don’t agree that general out goings in august and September and most of October were lower than they are now?
That overtime now is banned in most offices?

It’s a different climate now.

In august you could have made the money back easily by either working a bit of overtime or going to a different office that may be struggling.

Now? No chance. Not near me anyway.

If you could have afforded to have went on strike for longer in August and September you could have afforded to put money aside for these pressure period strikes that we all thought would be inevitable

You never
I did. Which is why I lasted until when I did.
Because the august/September strikes were the odd day here and there the back log just wasn’t there. Most walks were clear the next day. So any overtime was snatched up.
If the strikes then would have been longer (2/3 days a week) there would have been more walks fail thus more overtime for me to replenish my account.

Back in august/September I was losing about a days pay every now and then and if I was lucky I could get about the same equivalent in overtime.

You lasted 8 days spread over 4 months ( and even then that’s if none fell on your day off )

It’a not about the time period it’s about the number of days with no pay.

We would have been out for more than 8 days over Aug Sep if the union did what you claim you wanted so by that reckoning you would have either crossed the picket line or somehow been able to do more than 8 with less time to save

So your argument doesn’t stand up sorry

Whatever helps you sleep at night

You are struggling to understand.
One day strike in august means no backlog. Or very little. That means next to zero hours overtime available.
If they had said “instead of us having one day this week, one day the week after and one day the week after that we are going to do 3 days in one week…..”
That would have meant backlog. That means overtime. That means I could have clawed some of it back.

Instead we lost a days pay here and there with little opportunities to get it back in overtime.

Also, giving a 3 day strike (or even a 4 day strike) would have given postmen opportunities to look at other work for that week rather than just trying to look for an odd day here at an agency.

Instead, the union gave us one day strikes at a time of year when barely anyone noticed.

And I sleep very well thanks. I don’t feel guilt or shame for putting my family first. Plus I can afford the heating now so it’s nice and cosy!

Reading on Sky that people who strike are losing not only a days pay, but also the equivalent door2door allowance (and other allowances) and losing holiday pay for next year.

ST reckons over a grand has been lost. Could be nearer 2 grand by end of the year.

How does that effect the national contributions and pensions and such?
