Can the shareholders just turn up at the drop of a hat?
According to out Divisional rep hardly any of them live in the UK.

If they had made plans to attend the first meeting and it got cancelled at such short notice, I can't see any making much effort to attend a rearranged meeting.
Zoom, Teams, good old fashioned telephone conference call?

Most of the major shareholders (which are mainly investment companies) will have (London) city offices who can get
one of their fund managers to give some input. DK will no doubt have a rep at WHU who could get into the city to
present his view.

Starting to think the shareholder meeting thing is just a bluff from Ward

This isn’t the first time it’s been said the CWU are meeting with them and nothing happens

shareholder meeting was cancelled as meeting RM at ACAS was a priority.
This looks like Simon is calling the shots on when and when not to have meetings. Hes very controlling and manipulating at the same time.
My guess is that Simon Thompson called this meeting when he did, so that the CWU would be forced to cancel the planned presentation to shareholders in Royal Mail.

Nah. If it was a bluff Simon would be privy to this information (you would presume) & would great take great delight in letting us know,I’m sure
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

He is showing many psychopathic traits. This makes him almost impossible to negotiate with. I strongly believe these meetings are just a waste of time. I would be seriously surprised if he all of a sudden gave in. Not gonna happen. I am still not sure about his intentions. He clearly made a lof of mess already, mess unlikely to be cleaned before Christmas even if we stopped striking next week.
Which traits would those be?

Or DW cancelled the meeting as soon as he got the invite as didn't really have anything of note to tell them? I guess like ST we'll never know if it was a good presentation or just some more nonsense about postie's helping out in their communities etc.

Ha ha ha! You are probably right!

What can DW say to the major shareholders that they don't know already? And do we really think the shareholders will sack the CEO on the say so of the Union?

We have fired our major weapon, it is too late for RM to compromise - anyways, what can they offer at this late stage that the Union will accept? Total capitulation on the changes and 10% backdated - we can dream!

I think the CWU is far more preoccupied by the Rally in London! It is all political! Dave and Mick are basking in the glory of sucking it to the system...

Look, I despise the bloke, and this is just my view of him. The psychoanalysis stuff is just overcomplicating, a pretty basic situation. He's a yes man, who's made his career being the face of whatever is wanted, for whoever will pay him. It looks like he's failed wherever he's been, but that's from a viewpoint looking up. In reality he's clearly achieving what he's really tasked with, which is probably cost cutting, and syphoning money to wealth. He's in RM to break the union, as they stand in the way of his ability to make a handful people way more wealthier. The traits... The first one, he does talk odd, on the TV, I suppose. The second, I don't think he's violated any rights. He's tore up agreements, granted, but violated or disregarded our rights... Its a push. Third dunno how we could know that. The fourth, he is pretty heartless from our point of view, but sacking and slashing employees terms is a normal business practice, in our society. From his point of view, it's easy to justify. I suppose you can say he's misleading, when it comes to the offer. I don't think he is a liar tho, he dodges questions. A psychopath would've looked the reporter in the eyes n told him he was at the meeting. He didn't. He dodged.

Once Royal Mail have actioned these Voluntary Redundancies, then what?

I assume that's at least the end of preventing them employing new starts on lower wages and terms and conditions.

Imagine you got a £20k+ VR payment but would have been happy to stay for a few more years at least - then after you've left the CWU struck a good deal and you could come back on virtually the same terms and conditions apart from a few smaller concessions. You apply for a Postie job again and get it.... £20k in bank and nothing much changed.

What more do you expect the union to do? Thompson has said its a best and final offer and the overwhelming majority of us ( probably not you right enough ) find that offer unacceptable.

What are you expecting them to do exactly? Get round the table? Done it. Strike over the xmas period? Doing it. A rally in London? Called it.

YOU might find the crappy deal Thompson has told us is the best we will get acceptable - but most of the rest of us do not so until there is an acceptable offer on the table.....we can only keep doing what we are doing because its not getting accepted anytime soon.

You can't come back for two years as part of the redundancy terms. I think it's a legal thing because you are getting up to £30k tax free.

The problem with Dave Ward and the CWU is that what they are doing is no different whatsoever than what Starmer does for the Labour Party, in that they block everything the Tories want to do but never offer a credible alternative, and when they are asked what they would do they dodge the question.

Meanwhile, the innocent electorate are stuck in between the two.

This is exactly how Dave and Co are playing it. He is opposing everything that RM want to bring in (that part I agree with) but as for their alternative plan, there has been nothing more solid than whipped cream. All they have is an idealistic vision from what I can see, re-inventing the postie with a highlight on things like helping the community etc....all of which will take years to bring in with trials for this, trials for that, evaluate this, that and the other, and RM clearly have no intention of waiting that long. Those days ended when privatisation came in, a postie spending paid time helping an OAP is not delivering mail so therefore is not productive, which means number crunching bosses are simply not interested.

Meanwhile, the innocent posties are stuck in between the two.

It is just playing politics.

But until Dave and Co do actually come up with something, this situation will continue on.....with the posties being the ones taking the full brunt.

It's not playing politics at all. Dave and the CWU are the only thing between us losing out jobs, the remainder being on lesser terms and the business flooded with owner drivers. Whatever Dave has to say to shareholders should stay between him and the shareholders. The minute any of it becomes public, that's all the debate will become, the feasibility of it. The attack on our jobs, terms and conditions, will fall to the back, and Dave will be spending his time justifying any plans he's set out to shareholders, on any TV interview. Martin Lewis didn't give any solutions to the cost of living crisis for this very reason. I've said before, his only remit is to point out that we have a capacity, an infrastructure and market share that dwarfs our competition, and the best the CEO can come up with is owner drivers and statutory sick pay.

The Labour Party cannot block anything , the last time I looked the tories had an overall majority, if they can get anything through it will be because of their own backbenchers.

I'd also add, I'm seeing this "playing politics" phrase/narrative more and more, among comments, across all disputes, and all platforms. Its obviously a line that's being pushed.
