we currently have the worst of all worlds - less revenue due to IA (customers switching parcels to competitors) - more costs due to IA (agency workers for IA & recovery) - big back log / delays in the pipeline (poor customer quality) - so less sales + more costs + poorer quality - IA is very damaging - and we are having to balance all of this whilst losing £1.2m a day - we would like to release the IA agency workers - win our business back from the competitors & give everyone the overtime they would like - but we can only do that when we get peace - difficult time for everyone at the moment…..
Poor customer quality?? Sorry Simon, that came long long before any IA and none of it was down to the workers

If you seek peace why do you wage a war?
Ffs how many times its not a war its an industrial dispute.
It is a war against your terms and conditions and the very Likely Vr's on lower terms and some compulsory reduncies and the fact the are not getting anywhere near inflation and they doc your annual leave for striking and the fact later starts for do's sunday working for Wednesday rates and commit to deliver and employ other people to do your job with lower terms. IF that ain't War what is?
Maybe ask a Ukrainian. Prat.
The language used by the union has been war like since day one though.
“Hold the line!”

And some of the posters in here you would think were on the western front.

It’s a dispute and nothing more.

I'd say it's not even a dispute. Royal mail want us on strike and have made a final offer guaranteeing them their preferential position. If anything we could have called their bluff by not striking. " Oh s**t" they would have said
" the deal wasn't bad enough". It's the building blocks of an asset strip. This was delayed by the pandemic. The money made also made their asset stripping position a little harder so they had to give the bulk of it away. Once that entirely pointless money making couple of years was over, as far as we are now concerned, Thompson and the other vultures began destroying our contracts and stopped cross subsidising so they in a paperwork exercise can justify an asset strip. Make a quick and easy buck leaving us with nothing but hopeless and unachievable liabilities. It's not business just requires a complete lack of morals. Candy from a baby robbing an old women in the street. Easy with no morals extremely tough for the average person who cares about their fellow humans.

This CEO has had a poor run of late. The stating point last week being the government rejection of a no letter delivery Saturday. Then the CEOs poor media performances, and not least his formal police complaints, when in fact the massively overwhelming majority of postal workers were well behaved at picket lines, and following these complaint I have no doubt the Police duly consider Thompson a time waster and if anything a provocateur. And of course, Dave Wards and Andy Fureys strong and widely broadcasted media performances, in contrast to the media bloopers of Thompson. And now OFcom breathing down his neck. Up until last week I did consider the CEO in front. Now I consider the tide has turned against this one man show and that tide is irrevocably in favour of the Union.

A CWU strategy of measured IA in early 2023 I predict will conclude this matter.
The upcoming share-holders meeting is vital. Hopefully they`ll tell Thompson to get real or get out.

The government hasn’t rejected the most recent request to end sat letters
That is a point a lot of people seem to have missed and I'm not at all sure which way this new government will lean on this. Especially if it looks like some kind of state bail out might be required to maintain the USO in its present state.
Would a change to the USO require a vote, or is it something the government can just change?
A change in the USO needs to be done going through the normal parliamentary system and a change in the law. They can't just give it the nod.

Although this "government" seems to think it can ride rough-shod over parliamentary procedure

I just am pointing out on LBC that Dave Ward said he Simon Thompson is waging a war on postmen and women and he is some people on here don't have a clue about this dispute and how we feel about this has effected us all economically. But the difference of a WAR or Special Monetary Operation is a term both the same thing with the same consequences for all involved. If some people on here don't think I care about what is happening in the Ukraine it started TWO years ago in Belarus with the crack down there and the people on here ignored it just as the government did over here!

It started long before that!

Dave Ward from the interview in the Telegraph:

Mr Ward rejected claims of inflexibility: “We’ve said we will deliver 24/7. We've agreed to that.
“Can a postal worker become something more than just delivering parcels? Can they become somebody who actually supports people who might be vulnerable in society?

“We've talked about calling on elderly people. Delivering prescriptions is a great idea. Where people who can't get out and about, we actually pick up their prescription, and we deliver it.
“There's so many other things. I'm not saying I've got all the answers here at this point in time. What I'm saying to you is, we agreed to explore in a deeper way, how we could develop the infrastructure and Royal Mail and how we develop new products and services.
“And that adding social value is something that if we spent six months looking at all of the things that are absent from local communities, now, there used to be, that we could come up with a range of services.”

Is that really going to be his pitch to the shareholders?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I don't think any of us know what he'll be saying, but I do think he is right to point out RMs unique advantage concerning capacity and infrastructure. Like he said, if Amazon had the the infrastructure RM has, they'd be expanding into all kinds of services. I'm definitely no fan of Amazon, but they poke their finger in anything and everything. I definitely don't think they'd be aspiring to downsize to be another Evri, if they had all this in place. I wasn't sure just how much more of the parcel market share RM holds. I found statistics from 2021 on Statista. It says RM have 27% of the market. Amazon(12%), DPD(11%) and Hermes{12%) have a combined share of 35%. RM are a known, established brand, they have a huge infrastructure in place, that dwarfs its competition, and market share that reflects that. The best the CEO can come up with is zero hour contracts, statutory sick pay and owner drivers. I think Dave Ward's only remit is to just point this out to shareholders. Its the board and the CEO who have the onus on them to innovate and expand the business.

Yes!!! I stopped myself making exactly this point from fear of backlash from the small minority of f***tards that frequent this forum.

In the midst of the worst industrial dispute, the Royal Mail has probably seen, a bit of pedantry comes as light relief, tbh.

Hmn. Depends. If he's talking about the overall sales volume it would be less.
If he's talking about individual sales transactions, it would be fewer.
And if he's talking shite, it would be par for the course.
