My manager said today the way they are basically pushing everyone to industrial action it looks like they want to fire and hehire the lot of us! P&O but on a grander scale he put it. I had my doubts but after reading the things they want and imposing the 2% it's like they are trying to force us out. Wildcats anyone?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:56Having read the proposals it would appear they have found a way to piss off every section and area of the business including those who haven't even started.
So the question is..
Are they incredibly off the scale stupid or are they leading us into a trap?
I'm f****d if I know anymore but their behaviour is very bizarre.

If RM payout enhanced redundancy like P&O then I am onboard and I will take all my 30+ years delivery experience elsewhere.citypostie wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 17:05My manager said today the way they are basically pushing everyone to industrial action it looks like they want to fire and hehire the lot of us! having read his statements and seen him on sky news, i think he is a very bizarre CEO. Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Simon didn't proof read his offer, did he? He meant 2% plus full time working week reduced by two hours to 35.
Disgraceful offer.
So a reasonable, no strings pay increase is going to be covered by prolonged industrial action?

anyhow as i asked before, is it even legal what they are doing? i know it can't be illegal to give someone a pay rise, but in this way? after its been negotiated and failed? are they not breaking some kind of DRP rule? if its legal, how come every employer doesn't do this? they could all just say heres 2% now f*** off.

I just don't get where the capacity to take 30 minutes a day from summer comes in. Are there still offices that split their weekly hours evenly over each day, eg 7hr 24mins per day 5 days a week? For over a decade now we've been doing long and shorts depending on the day.norris9 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:35Flexible working - via Annualised Hours and proposed form of seasonal variation via 2 weeks notice of changes. That would also include a flexitime bank system for on the day variations!
How flexible is this going to be....
I assume it's going to be approximately 30minutes difference. So in the Summer months we'd finish 30mins earlier and in winter we'd finish 30 mins later. If it's like that then fine.
It makes some sense as long as the walks are correct and you can actually finish 30 mins earlier in the Summer. Because it will be an utter piss take if Posties have these terms changed to finish earlier, but then we have managers pressuring us to stay 20 to 30 mins past our finish time.
Is there anywhere we can actually read the specifics of these terms changes they want to make?

They can do what they want - it doesnt mean the ballot or strike can be stopped thoughdaveyeff wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 18:02anyhow as i asked before, is it even legal what they are doing? i know it can't be illegal to give someone a pay rise, but in this way? after its been negotiated and failed? are they not breaking some kind of DRP rule? if its legal, how come every employer doesn't do this? they could all just say heres 2% now f*** off.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Same here. Long and shorts were cut to the bone when times were adjusted to 37 hours last autumn, our Wednesdays and Thursdays are just 7hrs45mins long now and used to be 8hrs30mins. Massive struggle to "do things properly" and finish on time having taken 40mins paid break, without the lapsing managers think we can still do... Only way I can finish another ~30mins earlier right now during the "quiet summer" is leaving ~30mins of mail!Cucumber wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 18:11I just don't get where the capacity to take 30 minutes a day from summer comes in. and pay minimum wage.... they wouldn't get the staff, especially in high cost of living areas.citypostie wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 17:05My manager said today the way they are basically pushing everyone to industrial action it looks like they want to fire and hehire the lot of us! I have no idea. I guess we would not have to do any lapsing anymore and we'd just go home earlier at the earlier finish time.
But from my experience this could only happen for maybe 2 months of the year, if that. I assume they maybe just don't want to pay all the xmas overtime and instead have that covered off in our wages and then give us back time in some of the quieter summer months.
I assume they'd have to play it by ear as different walks / depots are different. Might be difficult to manage it all.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
Again lots of assuming but they could cut X minutes/hours from certain days in the summer and just tell you to make sure the tracked are done. I think the problem we have is we all assume (that word again!) that we’d deliver every single letter, club card statement, D2D on a given day when we know if RM pushed this through they’d simply tell us to be back at the DO an hour early, just do tracked and 1st class, then that hour is ‘banked’ for winter. Very dangerous times.norris9 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 18:29Cucumber wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 18:11I just don't get where the capacity to take 30 minutes a day from summer comes in. Mind you they’d have to invent some kind of a system of Amazon style logistics to manage it. The current managers can’t even manage a simple 5 day week for an employee without cocking up, forgetting someone has the day off or not realising they’ve rung in sick, I can’t imagine Beavis and Butthead in charge here overseeing all the different hours and making it work. I know at my DO they’d get it all wrong and we’d all end up having December off!
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I was going to say the same. I also thought the same last time we voted. It’s as though they are at least one step ahead of us.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:56Having read the proposals it would appear they have found a way to piss off every section and area of the business including those who haven't even started.

I’d guess that they will ban any strike action again, causing a bigger rift between us and the union or they have a plan to manage the expected one day strikes.
I’ve never been in a union before so I’m not sure what options we have once there is a yes vote but I really do think that if we’re going to do something, it shouldn’t be the expected option.

Re: Pay increase imposed without agreement?
I said in a thread recently......the changes WILL happen. It is not if but when. Lots of comments about solidarity/strike etc but the REALITY is that an overwhelming part of the workforce only think about themselves now...fact. This is not just in this job but many others too.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:21As pointed out it's Terry's job to negotiate these changes in a way that he doesn't become the most hated man in the union, he is essentially fighting for his job security as well as ours.A2B wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 16:13
It's supposed to be a no strings attached deal
The union is involved in two sets of negotiations or at least it was until this morning.
The first over a one year no strings deal and the other over change.
If you think these changes aren't coming in some shape or form you're deluding yourself.
A carrot decorated with money will be dangled and many will jump at it....without peeling the skin off the carrot to see what you have got to relinquish to get said money.
Rocky times ahead but it WILL happen.
