We have a load of part timers turn up from other offices to deliver parcels on a Sunday’s , but they are told not to 739 anything if not in bring it back & it goes out Monday as normal?

Happens with us too, and when the other office bods can't find an address they scan it as inaccessible and write that on the parcel.
Next day the duty holders get moaned at to the effect that 'I was in all day and the road was clear, what are you lot playing at?'.

With modern mapping tech, provided you've got a mobile signal then you can see on a map where a given house number is located

And just like how you MC workers don't give a toss about the next office in the line the Sunday parcel drivers don't care about the person delivering somewhere on Monday, why would they go to all that hassle when they can scan inaccessible and take it back for the next day?

You would think so, Shame RM’s mapping software sometimes can’t.

I would say being told not to 739 items just falsified the figures making Sunday delivery 100% success, same with these doorstep collections, we are now told not to question the weight, just take it.

Royal Mail never met a loss leader it didn't absolutely hate.

We make money from minute one of day one of a contract or the deal's off...

As someone who has regularly worked Sunday's since Last June the volume since Feb has been ridiculously low, Agency workers make up at least 50% of the workforce often nearer 65% and given the low volumes it makes little sense whilst we still use so many at present. Even if the volume were to treble in a short space of time the Depo I work at has well in excess of 100+ staff and working 1 Sunday in 6 would cover the demand easily if the worst came to the worst.

One thing I will say is It's alright those at the top demanding the best people/service but the training at RM is non existent and it needs addressing whatever your job role/shift becomes. Further to this the PDA's are not industry leading, nowhere near and given most staff have no intention of doing O/t on parcels through the week(Collections/LAT'S). I think most would encounter problems the first couple of times they tried to operate all the functions required Unique scan codes, R-O-N, etc so it's a fallacy thinking experienced staff could roll up and make things A1 imo.

I assume 'partners' is a typo and should be 'patterns'.....


ok, so I assume that maybe the 4 days on 3 days off pattern could be one offered to those who are willing to work Sundays.

If that means you get paid the equivalent of 5 days for 4 days work, then I'd consider that as long as the Sunday was the same amount of hours as the other days. The concern is that this pattern would include the whole weekend every weekend, which would be hard for me to accept.


I'd happily do it if it was 4 days on and 3 days off. WORK: Sun Mon Tues Weds, OFF: Thurs Fri Sat

I'd rip your arm off for a 4 day week like this on same pay as now, don't worry about any pay rise.

Further to this the PDA's are not industry leading, nowhere near

The PDAs are basically an industry standard, used by many companies. They each run a version of Android (some companies will be more up to date than other's with the version of Android that their PDAs are running). Each company will have their own apps that they run on the PDA, which suits the needs of their own company

The PDAs were ok at first but I think the problem is there's so much extra stuff running in the background using up all the ram (pda outdoor actuals and whatever all the other apps you can see if you pull down from the top of the screen are) that it's crippling them, they've slowed down considerably since we got them and now they're freezing and logging out just about every day.

First thing RM need to do is to have the traffic recording, delivery stuff and MC stuff as 3 separate apps. Maybe even split the delivery indoor and outdoor stuff into separate apps as well. Collections could perhaps be made a separate app as well. Don't think they really need the GPS recording enabled inside a MC or DO. If someone is scanning small Tracked in a MC then over the course of a shift they can end up scanning between 8,000-10,000 items. For large Tracked you're probably looking at between 2,000-3,000, maybe 3,500 over the course of a shift.

We don't get them crashing anymore (they've fixed whatever bug caused that) but they do occasionally just suddenly log you out.

Sundays is just anothef tool for Royal Mail to earn millions more for shareholders at the expense of beasting workers if Sundays are inevitable then the CWU needs to negotiate at least a 25% payrise ,if they are still making profits with agency workers then they need to pay us the £17 an hour.Lets just hope the CWU doesnt capitulate or its the end of the union and the end of Royal Mail as the best delivery company in the country..

if judging by what ive read working sunday will become a dutys or dutys to be picked if you want it so im not to worried if there not picked they will go to the newest starts which in ours will be included in there contract.but im not stupid either so...on a different note if you want to play the religeon card you would have to be a Seventh-day Adventist for which sunday is a no no.Am i one? not telling...

Seventh Day Adventists observe Saturday not Sunday.
