Good question, for example even by royal mail standards it would be a bit silly going out with mail in a hct when the calls are half a mile apart.postslippete wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 18:38So if you're a walking postie you won't automatically be on a Monday to Friday basis. What will non-drivers be doing on Saturdays if they only want drivers to be delivering parcels and 1st class mail then? Killing off the dead mail? Putting D2Ds in for next week? Cleaning the floors?

Why wouldn’t non drivers be sent out in a van share on Saturday ?one does the letters while other drives parcels or do parcels together ?
It's not cost effective for RM to have two in van delivering parcels and 1st class letters. Just look at the competition, where do you ever see two guys just delivering parcels in a van?? And if I'm brutally honest I can see parcels being prioritised over 1st class letters anyway. Like I've mentioned on another post, what do you think the business is going to prioritise if push came to shove? 100 Tracked parcels or 100 1st class letters? Don't forget that many posties may also be less inclined to work over their time as well when these later finish times roll in. That's the white elephant sat in the room that hasn't been mentioned.
The business expects the operation to be more efficient using less staff employed. From past experience of how RM have implemented changes, it hasn't worked out all that well. Everything is ad-hoc utilising the goodwill of staff helping them out. Unfortunately for them, most of that goodwill will have f***ed off and left the business the moment they expect staff to be working late evenings and weekends. It's one thing pushing for greater efficiency but there must be some sort of real incentive for people to want to do it as well. A crappy future profit share scheme is not going to cut it. Maybe some of the £300 million that they claim to save in doing this could be put to good use?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

They lost me when they started talking about quality of service, achievable and balanced workloads, fairness, talking to the people who know best ie the people who currently do the routes etc. These are concepts that have been alien to RM management for several years now.

Excellent post. Bringing in major changes like they are proposing requires staff to be fully on board and a lot of good will and that vanished many years ago.postslippete wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 21:14chickenwittle wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 19:56

Haha that bit made me chuckle, same old s**t, or maybe, just maybe it's actually sunk in they need their greatest asset to implement these massive changes as their current managerial stock especially at do level have zero chance whatsoever.Ozzvaldo wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 21:16They lost me when they started talking about quality of service, achievable and balanced workloads, fairness, talking to the people who know best ie the people who currently do the routes etc. These are concepts that have been alien to RM management for several years now.

Well said Pete, i am not sure why we always try to dissect anything this company comes up with, they never ever stick to what they say and 99.9% of anything they want depends on us basically bending over backwards for the "cunning plan" to work. They will probably offer a bonus, something that looks achievable, but like at xmas, not a chance of being achieved.postslippete wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 21:14chickenwittle wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 19:56

They will need to shorten duties for the letter delivery days as 2 days mail plus d2d's doesn't deliver it self no matter how they look at it, for some reason they think less days delivery means we will do more, not sure what planet they live on.
As soon as they move start times i think the resulting carnage, as even more staff possibly leave, could mean even more failures than at present.
I can imagine this time next year and nothing will really have changed.

remember back to when the clowns wanted just parcels doing on a saturday during covid , they wanted drivers to do 2 deliverys worth of parcels which wasnt doable and a s**t show , so now they want you to do 3 deliverys worth and include 1st class letters as well , they f***ing cluelesstoonshola wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 20:08The whole point in this planned change to the USO is to reduce the amount of duties going out on any given day to cut costs and Royal Mail have already stated the Saturday will be single van delivery’s doing just 1st class letters and parcels. There’s not going to be enough mail on the Saturday to justify two people going out on a van share. Think royal mails proposal has one person covering 1st class mail and parcels for three deliveries. Whether that’s achievable in reality is anyone’s guess.chickenwittle wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 19:56Why wouldn’t non drivers be sent out in a van share on Saturday ?one does the letters while other drives parcels or do parcels together ?toonshola wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 19:23Bags of what though? Only first class will go out on the Saturday which will amount to very little mail. It’s clear that non drivers won’t be needed to work the Saturdays but RM and the union won’t say that bit out loud. Drivers already get stitched up and this plan will make it even worse for us.qwerty2 wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 19:08Driver does all the parcels and non driver does all the bags?postslippete wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 18:38So if you're a walking postie you won't automatically be on a Monday to Friday basis. Having said that it looks like even those who drive will probably get around 50% of Saturdays off which is a damn sight better than what we have currently so I guess sign me up.
