My mail centre received 5 Yorks, over 100 trays of Christmas cards today from Heathrow. Nice of Royal Mail to treat mail from abroad in this fashion. Easy to blame other countries for their failure. Less complaints for late deliveries on their part!

It is disgusting how RM COMs have been telling us to prioritise the Specials and Tracked items over the letters this year. We had trays of Xmas cards today for us to deliver and they haven't all been delivered.

When you think that army soldiers used to send letters back from the front in the first world war that arrived the next day but now the Royal Mail can’t even deliver a Xmas card in the UK that was sent over 2 weeks ago. Regardless of the strikes something is fundamentally wrong in the company when they are deliberately holding all this mail back.

It IS disgusting and a deliberate failure of the USO. Is Thompson ignorant to the fact that his bonus package for managers means that they are allowing mail to sit in trays under frames while stating ‘All Clear!’? Or is it exactly what he intended? To help kill off the USO?

As I left the office today I had a look at another division and there are trays and trays of mail stacked in the aisles. Frames are clear, but that’s the con.

And a lot of ex military guys became posties after the war. That’s why military terms are still used at Royal Mail…

I've had no letters delivered whatsoever for 2 weeks. However, I've had my door to doors delivered twice. The coms have shrink wrapped the yorks and have left them in the outhouse on the front of the building.

We are clearing a boat load of backlog each day until we finally get back to square 1 in a week or two. Great.

Soulless job.

Yes , I remember those old guys back to when I first started in the job back in 1980 . One old timer was a rear gunner in a Lancaster Bomber . Great old blokes . They would be spinning in their graves if they could see whet Simon Thompson and the board are now trying to do with the 'company

Dunno but I remember on the three day training course something along the lines of if someone approaches you and asked do you know what number "Mr Smith" lives at then you're not allowed to tell them.

Oh yeah like everything else the training has also declined over the years, surprisingly we had a new starter about 6 months ago he had 1 days training at the mail centre then a couple of days with another postie (obviously office coach didn't even speak to him) then let loose on his own on a hct duty, he went awol after 3 days never to be seen again.

It was similar time to you when I started just over 20 years ago and it was like a classroom scenario, at the mail centre there was about 10 of us, all going to different do's in the area, as I said 3 days there learning all the aspects of the job, how to deal with signature items,what to do if there's a dog etc, on the 3rd day you got your uniform including a delivery pouch bag, then went to the DO to meet the dom and be shown round.

Then it was next day report to DO they'd put you with someone who was on leave the following week so you got 3 days training on a duty then did it on your own the next week/fortnight.

Sorry if this is off topic for this thread but just thinking how times have changed regards to new starters presumably all that classroom stuff is supposed to be covered by the office coach.

Disgraceful and embarrassing. Only way to conquer RM priority treatment is for the regulator to get tough on 1st class mail and every d/o in the land. Back to 100% clearance every day or you'll get fined for every failure - sort out staffing levels. 50 duties equals 50 staff NO less , maybe 1 or 2 flex due to sickness, the only reason.
