The USO was guaranteed by the government.

Under the terms of sale. Whomever took on Royal Mail agreed, legally binding contract to deliver mail, one fixed price to any where in the United Kingdom to fixed standards.

The government swore to the UK public that the delivery of their mail was set in stone .

The USO days were numbered when the Conservatives, with the help of the liberals, privatised Royal Mail.
It's not a question of if, but when. Just a matter of time.
Only re-nationalisation will save the USO, and while Labour remain Tory-lite, the USO hasn't a cat in hell's chance.

But who would pay for this re-nationalisation?

As I said that was the terms and condition of the privatisation.
The USO must and would be upheld.

The USO could be 1 day it would still be the USO.The Royal Mail would call it a 'modern USO'.

Have you been to A&E recently?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

But Royal Mail always state that are committed to the USO.
They are-but the USO doesnt have to be 6 or 5 or 4 days. The USO is what ever the Gov/Ofcom see fit.

No, it is a six day delivery, every household in the UK.
That is what it is.
