Cancelling todays strike will only weaken our position if we allow ourselves to turn against the union rather than against Royal Mail.

Today has been chaos for RM and the union can make mileage from their lack of respect shown on the death of our monarch. They can highlight the tone of Ricky McAuley's crass message in response to the strike being postponed. The number of people out on Thursday showed RM that our resolve is still solid. We mustn't let any disatisfaction with the decision to postpone yesterday's strike be interpreted as a lack of resolve for future action. On that decision, the poll thread currently shows that people are split pretty much evenly in feeling that the decision was either the correct or wrong one.

Remember. RM are the true enemy here, whatever anybody thinks of our union leadership.

I never said he did but the fact Royal Mail have said that is a start .

Definitely weakened ,the only way to get back from this disaster would be to call strikes on 3rd and 4th October so 4 days in a row or 3 days in a row that week the wednesday ,thursday and friday,the 1 day strikes will just not work this time,with xmas around the corner we need to drive home our advantage and quickly if xmas comes and goes we have had it and union bosses will be looking for new jobs.

I'm putting my money on

- later starts
- 1 in 4 sundays per worker, with pay reduced to normal OT rate
- new sick policy but no change in sick pay
- new hires on the shitty contracts, with any part timer who wants to increase hours being forced to take the new contract

all for a rounding up of the current 2% to 7%

Almost guarantee that the sick policy will change with later starts. Whether it will be soon or in 2 years it is inevitable.

RM and CWU both knew that a little more money will be offered - but not more than 2% extra in my view... The terms and conditions was alway going to be the sticking point and RM will not give more money only for us to Strike or continue to agitate or strike over t and c...

Where we are at now is exactly what RM wanted - no talk about pay increases without the conditions. We have done the strikes (in theory) about pay and failed; so now we have to deal with the terms and conditions whilst the pay issue is still totally resolved...

RM will have paid a little more before but now they can confidently bung us a lump sum having saved a bit of money and wages and pension contributions and NI and fuel and energy cost too... (Minus the cost of agency, strike breaker/managers bonuses, and other cost of operations - still will have saved).

We can go on strike on the 30th and 1st of October but we are still going to have to negotiate - and on the terms of RM with some concessions given/achieved

Well said sir. Absolutely spot on this isnt going to be an easy ride this will be a long hard haul if we want to come away with something significant in our favour from strikes.
The union did the sensible thing calling off Friday's strike but need to be more resolute & clear thinking in their actions going forward & we the members have to be with them every step of the way.
Heard for years now on here we should hit them with action near xmas will think this year could very well be the year we do.
Remember who we are fighting against & what we are fighting for & who is on our side for the fight.
