The problem is, unless your close to retirement, the same terms and conditions they want are already there waiting for you in every other so called low skilled job. I happen to think that's rubbish when you think of the colossal work load including oversize, pick ups, collections and the pressure of specials. It takes a certain level of skill to plan this every day. This is why we are currently sacrificing our livlihood to keep alive what little bit of respectful work practice we have left. I know it's extreme but I'd rather see total carnage than cave to this when at the end of the day another job away from royal mail will be equally as s**t if you stay on with what they propose goes through

Didn't I read somewhere that it's pointless having a strike on a Saturday?
I dunno, seems a good time - catches end of the month payday when people will generally order something, means an item ordered on Thursday won't even be processed until Monday and any items ordered over the weekend aren't being collected until Monday.

Plus it'll probably help in terms of hours - Saturday is usually a shorter day so can strike without as much impact on peoples pay packet.

I agree completely we are all in a fight to safeguard the future of all postie's new and old we've always tried to do a great job we are after all the frontline without us there wouldn't be a RM it's not those at the top who have made this company millions of profit it's everyone of us on the ground floor and let's not forget the 4pillars agreement we need to stay strong and fight for our rights even if it means more strike dates leading up to Xmas

If we cave or people feel they need to go into make ends meet then you need to leave now as your life will be unrecognisable. Get another rubbish job where the rubbish terms are laid bare and at the very least you know your FINNISH time.

Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
Won't be long now till Christmas.

Simon, at royal mail you have to negotiate with the staff to find an acceptable compromise. We won't accept negative changes forced upon us!

I agree but your not looking at a company focused on longevity and growth. We have to and are standing up for our rights but they aren't bothered about the future. They want their icing (gls) sold off and we are just left with the cake. The only way we can make a stand is if the government intervene and put a stop to it. With the powers at be attitude to incredibly rich people and their attitude to us regular people it's looking very bleak indeed. But we have to hold onto that hope. It's the only one we have. It won't be from the top brass of royal mail. They have everything riding on the sale of gls. Their accountants are sat ready for it. Our demise is orgasmic to them and their 300000 shares a piece doled out thus weak. SCUM!!!!!!

I pretty much agree, much of privatisation or takeovers are about short term gain and knackers to the workers it seems .its the top brass that get the money and the shareholders Only if they know when to get out

Hopefully the government understands that the USO and one prices goes anywhere can only survive with cross subsidies.

Anyone with investment clout and the billions raised by selling gls and the subsequent divi will bail after that is confirmed and royal mail will be left with a government bail out as they will still need us peasants proving the national carrier. At that point we're screwed big time.

All the parcel infrastructure will already pre sale be under the banner gls. Work they are currently planning to remove from us during this enforced revision including parcel hubs and we will be left with even more of the crap than we have already to deal with. D2ds and crappy little packets and mail shots

The government don't care unfortunately. Look at this new leader for example. BP boss has already said a windfall tax will not prevent investment but she still pushes forward with big corporate ideology
