Sorry I totally forgot about this thread but have been keeping an eye on proceedings. A little late in my reply.
Quite honestly I am exactly as stated, just a regular guy wanting to show support! I've had an interest in working for royal mail in the past hence I knew about this forum but I'm not sure how I feel on that now if the company are going to be making redundancies... It wouldn't feel right as essentially that's what RM seen to want, to replace their workforce for cheaper and with more responsibility.
The strikes are important to me as it seems absolute criminal to me what the higher ups and executives are getting away with. For us none postal workers this marks a big moment for all sectors. These strikes (or they seem to be to me) seem to be standing up to an unfair deal with no obvious end in sight. Many sectors are fed up with working conditions and you guys are almost setting the stones for what can be achieved. Even if you don't get a fair deal your resolve is inspiring and I even think this will lead to a change in governing party in the next elections.
I could go on, in a way I don't know why I follow this so closely but I have a few postie friends that have worked for RM for nearly a decade and they are both people I respect highly.
The media and RM seem to spin a story that postie's are holding Christmas to ransom but I highly doubt you guys want to be out of pocket by a considerable amount, standing outside in freezing weather and having to return to insane amounts of work so I started looking deeper.
I don't expect a reply or a hot take as was put earlier, I am trying to stay respectful though still as I know it's not really my business, but know some of us are truely on your side!
Thank you for your supportive comments.
It's nice that an outsider has taken the time to look behind the headlines and see what's really going on.
