Re: RMCtv : Letter to CWU urging them to call off strikes, talks next week, and no compulsory redundancy statement
The CWU can obviously go and negotiate over the next 3 or 4 or 5 days, but if no agreement is reached then the strikes surely would not be called off.
Royal Mail need to quickly accept the CWU's proposal if strikes are to be called off.

Yesterday they had a war fund and were pushing through changes in January no matter what, today they want to be nice if we call off strikes? NO WAY should we stop the strikes

The thing is ST was adamant the deal was full and final with no further conversation if we refused it.
Well we've refused it.
ST was also adamant there was no money yet the Telegraph have found a couple of billion down the back of the sofa.
ST also has scared the living daylights out of many thousands of workers with threats of compulsory redundancy if we didn't accept the non negotiable full and final offer.
We know he's friendly with the Tory Party and clearly he's now copying their u turn tactics.
The truth is confidence, and morale are at all time lows.
Anxiety and stress are at all time highs.
Customers both retail and home owners alike have been let down, and the economy has been badly affected.
The deal for me now has to be, if you want the strikes calling off give us what we originally asked for which is a no strings pay deal in line with inflation and take all of the pre conditions off of the table. Guarantee in writing our job security, and find a new CEO because ALL trust is now completely and utterly gone.

Re: RMCtv : Letter to CWU urging them to call off strikes, talks next week, and no compulsory redundancy statement
Last week the CWU announced that they had made a last ditch deal to cancel the strikes and Royal Mail refused.
TBF the deal was never going to be accepted but at least Royal Mail could be blamed for ruining Christmas.
Now Royal Mail has offered a last minute deal to salvage Christmas. It’s not a realistic deal either. But the headlines will be “CWU snub last chance to save Christmas.”
I personally think this is Royal Mail trying to shift blame and erode any public support for the CWU and posties.
They know there is barely any time to negotiate so once again it’s a final offer type deal with very little perks.

Dave and Andy want you out delivering christmas for the UK,
your a "community asset" dont'cha know!
Of course the 23rd and 24th was going to be called off, you could tell by the CWU revealing that they had offered to call off last weeks strikes of 14th & 15th, it was only RM sending a late reply via ACAS which actually enabled them to go ahead.
That's the problem with striking i'm afraid, unions have long track record of calling off strikes that is why i have been suspicious from day 1. Learned from experience.
Of course they may not be called off but it is looking highly likely.

Would make the CWU look weak if they do.2chorizon wrote: ↑17 Dec 2022, 08:08Dave and Andy want you out delivering christmas for the UK,

If you were a bookie what odds would you offer?
50/50?

So what odds that strikes go ahead? If its 8/13 on they will be called off then the odds that they go ahead should be about 5/1. I would have a big nibble at that.

I can’t see them calling it off, there’s too much pressure from members to continue with strikes.2chorizon wrote: ↑17 Dec 2022, 08:08Dave and Andy want you out delivering christmas for the UK,

Many seem to think that calling off the strikes is an indication of agreement to this “best and final” offer in its current form.
I think both sides know and have publicly stated that they’re far apart on many issues so it’s still an ongoing dispute.
The 23rd/24th is purely about committing to no CR “based on proposed changes”.
If it was called off, would it be seen as a goodwill gesture by RM and they would concede a bit more in new year when negotiations resume? Probably not but there’s a chance they could. Union get some credit in court of public opinion. More pressure on RM to do their bit and resolve dispute.
If 23rd/24th go ahead will they concede anything in new year? Most definitely not. Will current “Best and Final” offer be withdrawn/amended? Most likely?
Have you noticed the language being used, why it’s constantly being referred to as “best and final” as though it’s a brand? Even capitalised I think. Well it’s because it’s memorable and sticks. Just keep repeating it.
When they want to amend/withdraw this offer and replace it with a worse one, nobody can accuse them of saying they are reneging on their “final offer”. They’ll give their new offer another name to distinguish it from the current “best and final”. That was only “final” as far as “best” goes.
Straight from the Brexit/Boris/May playbook of sloganism.
Personally, whilst CR is a lived reality across many companies, I can’t see any company, including cash rich ones like Apple, ever giving an unlimited cast iron guarantee that there won’t ever be any CRs in the future. At best they can give a short term, time expired, indication but you never know what position your company is in tomorrow so why guarantee it.
In RM we’re lucky we have a footprint every where so another role can almost always be found, where vacancy exists & if you can be trained to do it etc. I don’t think we’ve had CR before albeit exceptional cases where people were effectively forced to “choose” VR. In any change programme they’ve done before have they ever stated no CRs? I don’t know but there’s always been the case that VR is oversubscribed.

I don’t know why so much concern over compulsory redundancies surely they can find enough volunteers, and what with people leaving the business in the next 6 months through retirement, sickness,or just had enough

Pretty sure I had the idiot on ignore. Not to worry, all sorted now. Convinced that ‘Red’ Len is another troll account created by the loon behind 2yr Postiechickenwittle wrote: ↑16 Dec 2022, 20:01Oh look Len is back on to defend Royal Mail , shock horrorredlen wrote: ↑16 Dec 2022, 19:59Not really.
It was the CWU that started all this by calling a strike over the pay claim.
With doing that the CWU tore up the legal undertakings in the Agenda For Growth Agreement being a no strike agreement.
Simon Thompson then siezed on the opportunity and went straight in with attacking terms and conditions knowing the CWU could not persue Royal Mail for breach of contract.
Why would Simon Thompson ever agree to legal undertakings that previously bound him in a contractual obligation?
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”
