Our office is in an absolute mess, packets, boxes and boxes and boxes of mail on yorks from weeks ago. This isn’t going to clear for weeks and weeks.
Totally understaffed, staff morale and atmosphere is toxic, the overall working experience is awful….. anyway Merry Xmas all.

Our MC is rammed but we are processing it, latest dated tickets i saw were 16/12.

I'm afraid it is deliveries who are dropping the ball, gone back to the pandemic default of "just taking the tracked"

^6 days mail in my frame,today again we just took tracked and i thought last weeks backlog was bad,10 times worse now,you would need to work 7 days a week till February to clear it,100's of nhs letters undelivered ,and a guy stopped me today and asked if i was delivering post as he hasn't had any for nearly 2 weeks i looked in my frame and he has about 20 xmas cards in there,and if the rumour is true no letters next week he ain't getting them.

Only thing I'd add, our incompetent manager is probably more effective than the strikes.

I hope senior management are reading these type of things and realise they are destroying the company. I honestly believe now is the time for the CEO and other current board members to stand down . We need people leading this company who will work with the union and help this company grow and prosper.

MC this evening easily the worst it's been so far. Too few staff in to cope with normal Christmas volume, even without the backlog. Lines of yorks with parcels from last Thursday and Friday filling the aisles, including some containing T24 and 1C. Barely any room to move anything in or out, and equipment in short supply. Told to concentrate on getting today's work done and just leave the backlog alone, but still a massive fail.

Does it actually mean anything if you have a "Fail"? I hear on the grapevine that some units get bonuses for hitting certain targets .... I wouldn't know as they've obviously set the standard so high that we've NEVER had any sort of productivity bonus.

It's a good question, to which I don't really have the answer. As far as I know, technically you can't fail when it's Christmas pressure, but when it's part of continuous pattern that nobody has made any attempt to rectify, there is clearly a fundamental issue. I have been told, and I can't verify this, that the managers' "primary" target is to process a certain amount of parcels using the PSM, so tracked parcels go through alongside 1C. But the machine ejects so much work as unsuitable that there are not the staff or the time to deal with it, especially if it is towards the end of the shift. But if you have less staff on hand, then the shift is likely to show a productivity increase regardless of whether the work is actually completed or not. It's a win for the machine.

There are absolutely huge delays, I think it's being covered by moving mail around - i've got customers who posted items on the 27th and 28th November whose parcels didn't receive their first cans until the 12th and 13th December, items posted on the 2nd not until the 20th.

There's an awful lot of mail somewhere, god only knows where they're storing it all or if they're just playing pass the parcel and keeping the mail moving around in lorries from site to site to avoid pictures like Bristol.

Just left after doing a round. While we were out lorries have arrived and there is more there than we had this morning. God knows how much will com in overnight.

Covid gave them the chance to get rid of floats and run a 5 day letter service, but claim to Ofcom that the poor service was due to the pandemic and no them purposefully understaffing us....

Now the pandemic is behind us they needed another way to dodge Ofcom fines and continue running a 5 day letter service or worse. What did they do - instigate strikes and maintain those strikes for as long as possible....who knows how long they will push this out for.

They don't want a deal. Is there any point in striking any more - it seems to be what they want us to do. Just don't accept any changes. One day they will give in. Make them run a 6 day letter service. Report any cynical understaffing to Ofcom.

Don't you mean it's the chronic mismanagement of, and in, deliveries that is causing the ball to be dropped?
