LTB 216/20 - NATIONAL POSTAL WORKERS DAY – 29TH APRIL 2020

Dear Colleague,

NATIONAL POSTAL WORKERS DAY – 29TH APRIL 2020

We are writing to inform you that the CWU have designated Wednesday 29th April 2020 as National Postal Workers Day. As you know we hold this event annually and create an opportunity to promote the fantastic work our members do all year round, but it is particularly pertinent this year during this crisis.

Nationally, the union will be undertaking a significant programme of work, including media articles, social media engagement, videos and working with MPs and the wider trade union movement.

Alongside engaging with this work, we are also calling on branches to develop your own local strategies to mark the day. To support this, posters have been dispatched to every postal branch and by the end of this week we will share graphics and model press releases which you can use to work the media locally in your areas.

This event will mark the ninth annual National Postal Workers Day, when the nation celebrates the hard work and dedication of hundreds of thousands of postal workers, who collect, sort and deliver letters, parcels and packets to 29 million addresses, 6 days a week.

We are living in unprecedented times but two things always remain constant – the strength of this union at all levels and the role our members play in every community in the UK – let’s celebrate both on 29th April.

Mean while in the real world postmen and women are risking there lives on a daily basis while this union who people are paying to protect them. Sits back and does nothing.

What are the legal requirements needed to designate a "National something or other day"?

Can anyone do it?

And only a complete loser would pick a Wednesday as national anything day, who's in a good mood on a Wednesday?

Only point is to highlight the postal service to the general public and try to show the importance of it. If not for that reason its a lot of shite.

I get the whole highlighting the importance of the postal service thing. It's a valuable part of the work.

But why do we need a 'National Day'? It's just another one of these meaningless platitudes that quite frankly is not pertinent in the grand scale of things.

What is more pertinent is the CWU spending their time and efforts checking whether each and every workplace is happy with the circumstances in their environment at the moment...

I think that would be a waste of their time.
Posties seem to be, by their very nature, unhappy in whatever environment they find themselves.
Whatever the situation you can bet your bottom dollar the majority will be unhappy. Always.
